Job summary
We are recruiting for a HealthCare Assistant who will work as part of the primary healthcare team providingPersonal Medical Services to patients of the Practice.
This post is for hours a week working on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, as per the service need of the practice. The successful applicant must have the ability to travel between both sites: Lofthouse Surgery and The Manse Surgery.
Main duties of the job
Working under the direct supervision of the Lead Practice Nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Our surgery provides care to over 11,000 patients across 2 sites: Lofthouse Surgery and The Manse Surgery. We have 8 Doctors, 3 qualified Nurses, 2 Health Care Assistants and a Phlebotomist who work at the practice, and we are looking to employ a Health Care Assistant to complete our team.
We are a member of the NHS Leeds Integrated Care Board and we are also a member of the Leeds 25/26 Primary Care Network.

Job description
Job responsibilities
1. Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by Practice Lead Nurse, GPS and Practice Manager.
2. New Patient Health Checks
3. NHS Health Checks
4. Information gathering for chronic disease
5. Basic Wound Care
6. Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
7. ECG Recording
8. Phlebotomy
9. Vaccine / Cold Chain Storage, monitoring and recording
10. Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required
11. Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
12. Maintain stock of waiting room leaflets as instructed by partners and Practice Manager
13. Ordering of Health Promotion Literature
14. Ordering of stock
15. Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
16. Attending all training meetings at TARGET or at the practice
17. At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
18. A duty to advise senior staff of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks
19. Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required.
20. Undertake home visits as required by the practice
21. Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post by the Partners or the Practice Manager
Person Specification
Experience
Essential
22. Previous experience in an Health Care Assistant role (Primary Care preferable).
23. Experience of working in an integrated multi-skilled team.
24. The ability to follow direction and standard operating procedures whilst also using own initiative.
25. Excellent communication skills.
26. The ability to be compassionate at all times.
Desirable
27. Experience of using a range of IT including knowledge of using SystmOne.

Qualifications
Essential
37. Formal Healthcare Assistant qualifications are preferred.
38. Experience working in the primary care setting would be beneficial.
39. Phlebotomy qualification/training.

40. Experience of HCA working, knowledge of Primary Care and the NHS.
