Who You Are You are a qualified and experienced planning officer with recent experience in Development Management at a Local Planning Authority. You possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to articulate planning matters clearly. Your organizational skills allow you to think laterally and meet tight deadlines. You are adept at presenting the Council's case at appeals and thrive in a team setting. You have up-to-date knowledge of planning legislation and proficiency with IT packages. A valid MRTPI or a related degree is essential, along with a current driving license. Your experience ranges within the Planning Division's career grade structure, and progression is based on qualifications, experience, and work level. What the Job Involves The role involves handling various planning applications for consent, permission, and approval, and presenting the Council’s case at appeal through written representations, informal hearings, and local inquiries. You will attend Plans Sub-Committee and delegation meetings to aid in application determination, investigate alleged breaches of planning control, and represent the Council’s position in Court as necessary. Correspondence related to planning issues is to be managed, and pre-application advice provided to applicants and third parties. Your role also extends to other duties within the planning division, including development plan, heritage, and urban design sections. The position may require attending meetings during and outside of office hours to ensure the efficient running of the Department or Section. This is a hybrid role that allows for some home working, combined with office attendance and site visits.
