What's involved with this role: Temporary Area Supervisor – Waste Services Job Ref: Leicestershire TCL 0009 2A62 / 1 Pay Rate: £16.00 per hour PAYE Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours Role Length: This opening assignment is for 6 months City: Barwell The role will mainly field based, travelling to RHWSs and WTSs. There may be some ability to work from home or form County Hall, but this is expected to be minimal. The role is a supervisor of site staff across all the Council’s waste sites. Candidates must be prepared to travel. Working pattern to be agreed with line manager based on 37 to 40 hours per week across 7 days. Weekend work is mandatory, preferably 1 in 2, but a minimum of 1 in 3. Overtime is likely to be available. The role requires travelling to the Council’s RHWSs and WTSs daily to undertake HR related tasks (supporting the onboarding process for new starters, undertaking one to ones, return to works, low level policy discussions), deliver training through work books and / or supporting those completing through e-learning. Key Responsibilities: Ensure that services are delivered for the benefit of the people of Leicestershire. To maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with customers and colleagues within the team and across the service. Ensure activities are delivered in the most efficient and effective manner possible. Maintain Leicestershire’s RHWS services at designated sites to agreed levels in accordance with legislative, policy and budgetary requirements. Lead and direct a team of designated operatives in accordance with agreed performance standards and LCC procedures. Act as a CoTC holder for the RHWS and provide CoTC cover at sites as required. Ensure compliance with Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality Management systems, permits or licences at designated RHWS. Conduct regular, documented RHWS inspections for Health & Safety, Environmental, Quality and Security issues at designated RHWS. Identify and report opportunities to improve customer service and recycling rates by challenging existing working practices. Full UK driving licence required for this role. Qualifications: WAMITAB CoTC Level 3 (or working towards). GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English. Skills & Experience: Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role or context and ideally within a public sector organisation. Supervision of employees in the waste management industry or similar workplace. Management of waste operations on-site. Managing on-site assets, such as fixed and mobile plant. Working in accordance with Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality Management systems in the waste management industry. Knowledge of waste management (prevention, reuse, recycling, composting, disposal). Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite, Adobe Pro).
