We are recruiting a part-time inspirational SEND Nursery Practitioner holding a level 2 or 3 qualification in early years/childcare to join our team at Little Gems Day Nursery to support a child who has SEND (Special Educational Needs and or Disabilities). Our nursery is a private family-run nursery offering a homely atmosphere along with friendly qualified staff. The nursery is equipped with stimulating equipment. We are open Monday-Friday, 51 weeks of the year from 7.30am-6pm. We are closed bank holidays and a week at Christmas.
This role is for a part-time practitioner who has a passion for supporting children with SEND. They will be required to support a child with their PSED and self-regulation skills. The practitioner will be the child's one-to-one support, coaching and supporting the child through their emotions and implementing strategies suggested by outside professionals and the setting's Inclusion Development Manager (SENCO). The practitioner has to have good communication skills, be patient, have a positive approach to behaviour, and a passion for supporting children with SEND. The working hours and pattern for this role is flexible and open to discussion for the right candidate.
Reporting relationships: Reporting directly to the Inclusion Development Manager, Manager, Deputy, and Room Leaders.
Purpose of the job:
* Assist with the room leader as directed in the day-to-day running of the room.
* Provide one-to-one support for the child.
* Implement all the support and strategies suggested by outside professionals and Inclusion Development Manager (SENCO).
* Maintain a good working relationship with the parents.
* Complete planning and next steps for the child and ensure all needs are met including physical, intellectual, emotional, and social needs of each child.
* Provide a stimulating and varied programme of play and learning opportunities.
* Ensure the safety and well-being of the children at all times.
* Undertake a key worker role with specific children if instructed to and ensure key caring of all key children, making sure all key children’s documents and paperwork are completed.
* Provide a positive role model to all other staff.
Main duties and tasks:
* Maintain a high standard of professional conduct and a child-centred approach to the care provided in accordance with nursery policies, procedures, current legislation, the EYFS, registration requirements, and any other guidelines issued by Hampshire County Council.
* Assist in the setting up and clearing away of all activities and equipment, ensuring they are safe and hygienic at all times.
* Ensure high standards of hygiene and safety are maintained at all times.
* Keep any information received concerning the children confidential at all times.
* Encourage children’s progress in all areas of development, types and stages of play, through interaction and extension of play activities.
* Be responsible for keeping the individual record file for each of the children in the key worker group and maintain accurate records including registers, sleep charts, nappy books, home books, etc.
* Be involved in curriculum planning, policy writing, and record keeping as requested by the Manager.
* Attend staff meetings as requested.
* Attend training as requested.
* Support the work and beliefs of the nursery by helping to create an environment that promotes open and equal opportunities for children and adults.
* Work as part of a team and support colleagues.
* Provide feedback to the nursery manager on issues relating to your room and the nursery day.
* Encourage the participation and involvement of all parents of children attending the nursery in their child’s development.
* Be flexible with the working practices of the nursery.
* Help when other areas of the nursery may be short-staffed or with domestic duties, or other duties as specified by the manager.
* Ensure the manager is informed of the physical and emotional security of children and that any concerns are reported to the manager or child protection officer immediately.
