Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Commitment
Whilst all applicants will be judged on merit alone, we particularly welcome applications from groups currently underrepresented within our working community.
With over 30,000 students and 7,000 staff from 150 different countries we offer a diverse and engaging environment where our diversity is celebrated and valued as a major strength. We are committed to creating an inclusive culture where all members of our community are supported to thrive; where diverse voices are heard through our engagement with evidence-based charter frameworks for gender (Athena SWAN and Project Juno for Physics), race equality (Race Equality Charter Mark), LGBTQ+ inclusion (Stonewall Diversity Champion) and as a Disability Confident employer.
We are proud signatories of the Armed Forces Covenant and welcome applications from service people.
Positive Action Pilot
At the University, we review our People data regularly and are striving to be representative of the communities that we serve. In review of our People and EDI data, we have noted that there is disproportionate underrepresentation of colleagues from Black, Asian and Other Ethnic Minority backgrounds in Professional services roles and this is an area of focused improvement in our Race Equality Charter Application and one that meets the criteria for positive action under Section 158 and 159 of the Equality Act 2010. We have undertaken an equality impact assessment on the scheme and believe that this is proportionate way of addressing the underrepresentation and would not create a disproportionate negative impact, including any other protected characteristics under the Equality Act and will be additional to our duties under the Disability Confident Scheme. We will be piloting this positive action approach for this cohort of the Graduate scheme and evaluate this fully prior to the next cohort or wider application of positive action for ethnicity.
