We are looking for a Retail Supermarket Compliance Auditor (Safe & Legal Auditor) to join our diverse team. The successful candidate will ensure our store’s operational compliance through the Safe & Legal audit programme, ensuring the company is protected from reputational risk and enforcement action (latter may incur unlimited fines and removal of licences to operate).
The ideal candidate will live centrally to the audit allocation areas listed here & have good access to them all: Norwich, Cambridgeshire, Essex, London, Kent, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Surrey.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter who travels to a different store each day to conduct the full Safe & Legal audit, liaising with the Regional Compliance Managers & supporting their agenda to drive improvements.
Responsibilities
* Conduct Technical Safe and Legal Audits in accordance with the Audit Protocol to identify stores’ risk rating and communicate findings and remedial Action Plans to store and Regional Management.
* Conduct primary and re-Audits within agreed frequency and timescales.
* Be an active member of the audit consistency programme.
* Provide support to Training stores, ensuring they trade safely and legally by delivering proactive and reactive training/coaching of applicable company policies and procedures.
* Build strong relationships with the retail management teams.
* Work in partnership with Regional Compliance Managers to ensure that serious hazards are addressed.
* Conduct investigations, follow ups, and support visits as required on an adhoc basis (note: the primary role is auditing).
* Ensure own competence is maintained and developed.
* Provide stores and sites with coaching and guidance on correct and efficient implementation of safe and legal policies and procedures.
* Plan and deliver the audit programme to minimise travel and other costs.
* Maintain own expenditure within agreed budgetary limits.
* Conduct Fire Risk Assessments to support Regional Compliance Managers (full training will be provided).
* Attend & participate in team meetings and updates.
* Deliver an annual project to drive performance improvements in Retail.
About You
We’re looking for someone who has:
* Expert knowledge of Supermarket safe and legal systems acquired through practical application.
* Experience of carrying out audits of medium/high complexity.
* Familiarity with the retail environment and proven ability to assimilate complex operational procedures.
* Lead Auditor or other recognised audit qualification (desirable; training will be provided).
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high level of attention to detail.
* High integrity & morals; driven to do the right thing.
* Ability to present information in a clear, concise manner.
* The ability to influence, engage, and communicate with people at all levels.
* Assertiveness, with an ability to remain positive and maintain high professional standards under pressure.
* Self-motivated, with excellent time management and prioritisation skills.
* The ability to champion the customer while keeping compliance at the forefront.
