Solihull Community Paediatric Team offers appointments in homes, clinics, and schools, telephone appointments, and virtual workshops to support parents and professionals. We have team meetings, supervision, and CPD sessions each month to support individual and service development. We offer opportunities for home working and have a base in the north and south of the borough.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 OT who would like a full-time, 12-month position and a part-time 12-month position who would like to experience working in our Paediatric Community Team. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who have a passion for Paediatrics and who want to develop their skills and knowledge within a supportive environment. Main duties of the job
Duties of a Band 6 O.T in this setting include:
1. Provide assessment in the areas of self-care, school, and play/leisure.
2. Take a client-centred approach and advocate on behalf of the child and/or their carers where appropriate.
3. Assess the impact of the environment (physical, social, sensory, and cultural) on a child/young person's occupational performance.
4. Assess and make recommendations for the provision of specialist equipment and monitor its use.
5. Set collaborative SMART goals with children, families, and relevant professionals.
6. Use evidence of current best practice to plan, facilitate, and evaluate appropriate interventions.
7. Formulate individualised, written home programmes focused on family-centred goals.
8. Teach therapeutic techniques to parents, carers, and education staff to enable them to carry out an OT programme for a child or group of children.
9. Evaluate progress using appropriate outcome measures and modify strategies where appropriate.
10. Work confidently and effectively within the multi-disciplinary team.
11. Lead in the creation and delivery of service workshops to both families and professionals.
12. Analyse and reflect on the current service provision and lead on service development.
13. Actively participate and contribute to the service's CPD programme.
14. Provide formal supervision and leadership within the team.

* GCSEs (including A -- C grade in English & Maths, or equivalent)
* 3 passes at A level (or equivalent)
* Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent overseas qualification
* Registration with HCPC
Desirable
* Member of Royal College of Occupational Therapists
* Post graduate paediatric training
Experience
Essential
* Able to assess, develop, and implement appropriate programmes of care, write reports, and evaluate outcomes and treatment to meet the needs of clients.
* Experience of working with children and young people.
* Post graduate experience of advanced clinical reasoning within a range of occupational performance components (Motor, Perception, cognitive, sensory, ADLS).
* Specialist knowledge of paediatric conditions including DCD, cerebral palsy, autism, sensory processing needs.
* Specialist knowledge of challenges affecting families of children with complex needs.
* Knowledge of clinical governance and its application to community settings.
* Documented evidence of Continuous Professional Development.
* Knowledge of safeguarding including areas of concern and common practice in its management.
Desirable
* Specialist knowledge and experience of paediatric assessments and interventions.
* Experience of community work either pre/post graduate.
* Extensive postgraduate clinical experience with children and families.
* Experience of supporting junior members of staff.
