We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated individual for our newly created Pastoral Care Worker Role.
You would be joining our arts-based day centre for individuals with learning disabilities and physical challenges.
In this role, you will provide emotional, logistical, and practical support to service users, fostering a nurturing environment that promotes wellbeing, inclusivity, and personal growth. You will also work collaboratively with the team to deliver holistic care that aligns with our ethos and objectives.
Key Responsibilities
• Emotional Support: Build trusting relationships with service users, offering a listening ear and supporting them to find appropriate resources.
• Relationship support: Observe, identify, and mediate points of friction between participants. Support facilitators in managing rooms and keeping sessions on target.
• Advocacy: Empower participants by advocating for their rights, needs, and aspirations within sessions and champion their emotional needs and well-being in internal and external meetings.
• Practical Assistance: Help with day-to-day in-session challenges faced by participants, promoting their independence and confidence.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the Interakt team and external professionals to help foster holistic, people-focused care and meet individual care plans.
• Crisis Management: Offer calm and reassuring support during times of distress or behavioural challenges, following appropriate safeguarding protocols.
• Motivating Participants: Encourage active participation in music, movement, drama, art, and life skills activities.
• Training and Development: Participate in ongoing training to ensure best practices in pastoral care and support for people with learning disabilities, alongside developing your project management and collaboration tools to best support your team. Where applicable as agreed, share your expertise with the team to support their development.
Qualifications and Skills
Essential:
o Provable experience in a pastoral, caregiving, or support role within the disability, social care or other relevant sector.
o Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to empathise and connect with individuals of varying abilities.
o Experience of individuals with challenging behaviour
o Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures.
o Flexibility, patience, and a non-judgmental attitude.
o Understanding of person-centered care principles and practices.
Desirable:
o Relevant qualifications in pastoral care, social work, or counselling.
o Experience in facilitating group activities or workshops.
o Report writing
o UK full driving license

Additional information
Some occasional weekend and/or work is expected, which staff accrue TOIL or receive payment .
