Part-time, term-time plus three weeks
Founded in 1646, Reading Blue Coat is a leading independent day school of circa 800 pupils from ages 11 to 18. The School is located on a beautiful 46-acre campus in the village of Sonning, just outside Reading.
The School employs more than 200 staff, of whom 50% are academic staff, and provides a stimulating, friendly and supportive atmosphere in which each pupil can realise his or her full intellectual, physical, and creative potential.
Reading Blue Coat is situated on the river Thames between Sonning and Caversham. We enjoy a four kilometre long, quiet stretch of river on which to train. Our spacious Boat House is located within the school grounds on the Thames and houses our state-of-the-art rowing equipment.
The Boat Club has grown significantly over the last decade, with participation levels rising on a yearly basis. Our athletes are keen to learn and eager to improve. Continued interest amongst our student population and a drive to improve performance, has created the need to appoint an additional coach to support the current team, it is a fantastic opportunity to join a developing and exciting program.
Blue Coat targets the “big three” races, Schools’ Head of the River, National Schools’ and Henley Royal Regatta, alongside a host of local races. With thriving numbers and increasing performance levels, Blue Coat Boat Club is competitive on the National Stage. The Boat Club has continued to progress and went on to have the most successful season to date during the 2023-24 season with an 11th place finish in Championship Eights at the Schools’ Head, and a competitive Henley campaign.
Reporting to the Head of Rowing, we require an enthusiastic, conscientious and skilled rowing coach to deliver a comprehensive and high standard rowing programme that is both recreational and competitive across a range of age groups and abilities. The coach will work during term time, for 14 hours per week, including Saturdays, as well as some hours during training camps and Summer Courses in the school holidays.
Applicants will preferably possess a UKCC Level 2 coaching qualification and have some experience of coaching children and young people. You will be an able rowing and sculling coach, with a real passion for the sport. You must convey energy and enthusiasm; be an effective leader and role model for our students; and be able to communicate effectively with parents, pupils and staff.
