Job Description:
Duties: Under the general direction of the Assistant Manager, Campus Security Services, the Supervisor provides direct supervision and direction to College Special Constables, contract security guards, and student volunteers from the Student Auxiliary program. The incumbent's primary focus will be on the operational effectiveness of security response activities. This includes adhering to the London Police Service Board Policing Agreement and Standard Operating Procedures as outlined for Special Constables by the London Police Service, and departmental directives and procedures.
Additionally, the Patrol Supervisor, as a Special Constable, will provide security and law enforcement at the College including enforcement of College policies as it relates to safety and security. The incumbent will operationally be responsible for a security patrol shift conducting investigations and to lay charges under both criminal and provincial legislation when warranted. The incumbent will also assist with efforts towards implementing crime prevention, safety awareness, and workplace violence prevention programs conducive to the College environment and culture.
The incumbent will be required to successfully complete the Basic Special Constable Training through the London Police Service as a condition of employment. Special Constables execute their authorities in accordance with the Special Constable Standard Operating Procedures between London Police Service and Fanshawe College of Applied Arts and Technology.
Hours: The incumbent will be required to work alternating shifts on a regular basis.
Qualifications:
1. Recognized post-secondary 2-year diploma in Law Enforcement, Police Foundations or Law and Security or equivalent
2. Minimum 5 years civilian, military, police, special constable and/or security experience
3. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
4. Current First Aid and CPR certificate
5. CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) Level 1 certification an asset
6. Proof of successful completion of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) Constable Selection System (CSS) or equivalent (completed within the last 3 years preferred) or previous civilian/military police/special constable experience
7. Proof of Valid Ontario G class driver's license
8. Proven ability to lead others in a team environment
9. Proficient conflict resolution skills and the ability to work with others cooperatively
10. Competency in computer operations (i.e. Word, Excel, Email, PowerPoint)
11. Thorough knowledge of the Criminal Code, applicable Provincial statutes and Municipal By-Laws
12. Knowledge of mediation skills and alternate dispute resolution methods
13. Strong leadership, analytical, interpersonal, written and verbal skills
14. Knowledge/experience with basic investigative techniques
15. Willing to take charge in emergency situations/accepts responsibility
16. Confidence, based on experience, training and knowledge
17. Recognize and maintain confidentiality of security information
18. Understanding of College community
19. A strong understanding of Community-Based Policing principles
20. Knowledge of Ontario Fire Code, WHMIS, and Spills Response procedures
