Preston Lodge High School is a non-denominational secondary school serving the communities of Cockenzie, Port Seton, Longniddry, Blindwells and Prestonpans. Our roll is currently 1060, and the school is very easily commutable from Edinburgh. The strengths of our school are:
* The high morale, sense of belonging and positive ethos of the school community
* The nurturing, inclusive work of staff across the school in supporting young people’s learning and wellbeing
* The strong, positive relationships between staff and students
Our motivated staff, students, parents, carers, and community have worked hard to further improve all aspects of our school, and staff love working at Preston Lodge. Following a recent inspection we are now working hard to address a number of improvement areas, and we are already making great progress. We are a happy school, and new staff report very positively on our school’s culture and ethos. At a time of great uncertainty in education, we work together to provide the best education possible for all of our students.
Our work is focused on continuously improving our approach to classroom practice, developing student and staff learning, improving our curriculum offer and improving attainment, with a keen focus on our equity gap.
In session 25-26 we have nine S1 classes coming to PL, rather than the usual seven, and we are looking to appoint an additional Home Room teacher for one session only, to increase our Home Room capacity. The successful candidate will work primarily as a Home Room teacher to two Home Room classes, as well as providing first-line guidance support for the students in those classes and delivering a small number of BGE lessons beyond the Home Rooms curriculum. Those lessons will be agreed with the successful candidate, based on their skillset.
Subject to the policies of the school and the education authority, the duties of teachers, promoted and unpromoted, are to perform such tasks as the Head Teacher shall direct:
1. Teaching assigned classes together with associated preparation and correction
2. Developing the school curriculum
3. Assessing, recording and reporting on the work of pupils
4. Preparing pupils for examinations and assisting with their administration
5. Providing advice and guidance to pupils on issues related to their education
6. Promoting and safeguarding the health, welfare and safety of pupils
7. Working in partnership with parents, support staff and other professionals
8. Undertaking appropriate and agreed Career Long Professional Development (CLPL)
9. Participating in issues related to school planning, raising achievement and individual review
10. Contributing towards good order and the wider needs of the school
