The Digital Services Directorate is responsible for managing and delivering technology, data and digital services to support the academic, administrative, and research functions of the university.
Summary:
The Network and Security Manager will provide strategic and operational leadership for the university’s cyber security and network infrastructure. This role combines technical expertise with high-level management responsibilities, driving the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of secure and innovative network services.
The post holder will lead a team responsible for all wired, Wi-Fi, and remote access services, as well as overseeing the university’s defence against evolving cyber threats. They will ensure that network and security operations align with institutional goals and contribute to the university’s long-term IT strategy.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
* Develop and implement the university’s network and security strategy, aligning with institutional objectives and IT transformation goals.
* Represent the Network and Security team at senior management and governance meetings, influencing policy and strategic decisions.
* Provide expert advice to senior leadership on emerging technologies, security risks, and mitigation strategies.
* Develop long-term plans for infrastructure resilience, scalability, and security, ensuring readiness for future demands.
Leadership and Team Management
* Lead, mentor, and manage the Network and Security team, ensuring a collaborative and high performing culture.
* Oversee resource planning, recruitment, and professional development to meet evolving demands.
* Manage performance and set objectives, ensuring the team delivers high-quality services to staff, students, and stakeholders.
* Act as a key escalation point for critical incidents, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
Financial and Operational Management
* Develop and manage budgets for network and security operations, ensuring cost-effective service delivery.
* Oversee procurement processes for network and security infrastructure, ensuring value for money and alignment with strategic goals.
* Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers, negotiating contracts and ensuring high service standards.
IT and Security Operations
* Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing management of the university’s network and security services.
* Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks, including GDPR and relevant cybersecurity standards (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST).
* Oversee vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and incident response, safeguarding institutional systems and data.
* Collaborate across departments to embed security into university-wide projects and operations.
Development and Innovation
* Drive continuous improvement in network and security services, staying ahead of technological trends and emerging threats.
* Lead strategic projects for infrastructure enhancement, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
* Promote the adoption of innovative solutions to support the university’s teaching, research, and administrative objectives.
