The Role
UK Parliament is looking for a Mechanical Fitter to join our expert parliamentary services team.
Working within the Engineers' Control Team within PMST, you will provide a 24/7 response to building services-related works and emergencies across the Parliamentary Estate. The team's duties include operation of all plant and equipment across the estate, manning the helpdesk out of hours, responding to emergencies (such as leaks, power outages and lift entrapments), carrying out fault finding, and repair works on building services infrastructure.
Average gross working hours for this post are 43 hours 15 minutes per week (37 hours net, plus 15 minutes handover per day).
The postholder will work to Engineers Control's existing shift patterns 12hrs rotating over a 28-day pattern.
Some of the responsibilities for this role include:
* Carrying out mechanical duties of an emergency nature as well as tracing and rectifying faults.
* Carrying out mechanical maintenance tasks.
* Carrying out lift entrapment release (LER) as part of Engineers Control's LER team.
* Working as part of the Engineer's Control team providing a multi-skill function necessary to quickly resolve a wide range of building services and facilities-related problems.

Introduction
The Parliamentary Maintenance Services Team (PMST) is responsible for the planning and delivery of building and engineering services maintenance activity and projects.
The team provides reactive maintenance support to resolve incidents or asset failures across the Estate. In addition, we support the delivery of key seasonal and major ceremonial events on behalf of Parliament. Our team has the expertise and adaptability to support with the varied and unique issues presented by an ageing estate - the team's work spans from fixing a squeaky hinge, to installing complex heating and cooling systems.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
* City and Guilds NVQ level 3 (or equivalent qualification) in a mechanical or building services related discipline.
* Demonstrable working knowledge of the current mechanical regulations related to the control of Legionella.
* An understanding of customer service delivery with good interpersonal and communication skills including an understanding of diversity and inclusion.
* Demonstrates a good working knowledge of pre-planned maintenance activities including all paperwork necessary to maintain a range of mechanical services and equipment.
* Must possess a working knowledge of health, safety, welfare legislation and issues as it relates to building services, plant and equipment.
