Job Summary
A fantastic job opportunity has arisen to join the Neuro Intensive care unit at Queens Hospital, Romford, as a band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse. In this role you will provide leadership, educational support and guidance to our nursing workforce, drive developments in nursing practice to improve patient care and experience, and facilitate education and training for registered and non-registered nursing staff in our highly motivated teams. You will be required to provide training and support to new staff members, and guide individuals who require performance-related assistance. You must be able to act as a role model, provide teaching and leadership support to the nursing team in the clinical area, and work collaboratively within our multi-disciplinary team to demonstrate advanced clinical specialist skills in order to provide the highest standard of individualised evidence-based patient care while supervising the work of others (in line with local and national standards), and be responsible for supporting changes in nursing practice, based on evidence, research, audit findings and best practice for ongoing quality improvement in Clinical Care services.
Main Duties of the Job
1. To provide holistic nursing care to clients within the ITU/HDU, utilising all resources to provide excellence in practice.
2. To develop personally & professionally as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team and undertake appraisal annually.
3. To support all areas of critical care including cross-site working.
4. To take charge of the shift regularly in the absence of a senior nurse.
5. To act as a role model to junior members of staff.
6. To provide bedside teaching and mentorship to junior colleagues.
7. To provide support to the senior nursing staff.
8. To contribute to the maintenance of a safe environment.
9. Reports any potential / actual problems to senior nurse.
10. Act as a link nurse when required.
Person Specification
Education/Qualifications
* Registered General Nurse
* Post graduate course in Critical Care
Desirable
* Teaching qualification e.g. ENB 998, Teaching and Assessing in Nursing Practice
Experience/Knowledge
* Experience in mentoring junior staff and student nurses.
Desirable
* Experience in audit & research
Skills/Abilities
* Able to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
