About the role:
The Inorganic product portfolio comprises caustic soda, HCL, sodium hypochlorite, sulphuric acid, ferric and aluminum coagulants, nitric acid, and ammonia. The Inorganics business sells over 500Kt per annum of product in bulk and packed format.
The commercial, customer service, and supply chain teams report directly to the Commercial Manager. There are 3 direct reports and 6 indirect reports.
As the Commercial Manager, your responsibilities will include:
1. Delivery of planned and budgeted margin and volume performance.
2. Key product responsibility for the Inorganics product portfolio, including all regulatory and technical aspects of the product, supported by the Technical Manager.
3. Work effectively within the commercial function of the wider UK business and coordinate sales and supplier activities with other Commercial teams across the business.
4. Monitor, review, and continuously challenge sales performance of the business through direct communication with the Regional Sales Managers.
5. Liaise with key suppliers at a senior level. Develop supplier strategies to maximize product supply opportunities and strengthen supply chain continuity.
6. Ensure supplier agreements are fulfilled. Actively involved in the renewal and/or creation of supplier agreements.
7. Develop effective product growth strategies to continuously grow margins.
8. Provide regular market intelligence for the monthly UK business intel report. Update and notify the wider UK business and sales teams of market changes affecting product availability and supply.
9. Prepare and present the commercial input for the Inorganics annual budget review process.
10. Manage and lead the performance of the customer service team, using all appropriate metrics to deliver customer service excellence.
Your skills & Experience:
1. Degree in business, chemical, or technical discipline preferred.
2. Knowledge of commodity chemical markets including chlor-alkalis.
3. Commodity-based sales knowledge.
4. Experience in marketing a service-based offering.
5. Experience working within a large corporate organization.
6. Business and sales management experience.
7. Confident with excellent negotiation and communication skills.
8. Ability to think and plan strategically and act tactically when required.
