What you'll be doing in this role
This role will be to assist the Workshop Manager and the team to maintain the company’s infrastructure with regards to our fleet and customers; ensuring we have an operational and road worthy vehicles to fulfil our contractual and legal obligations.To ensure that the fleet vehicles maintained to the highest standards in line with the manufacture’s standards, DVSA, Operators licence undertakings and legal guidelines to the required schedule set out by the company or contract. To contribute to the safe, lawful, efficient and professional operation of the Company’s and customers’ vehicles and plant
1. To ensure that all requirements with respect to the health, safety and welfare of staff within the post holder’s responsibility are properly met. This duty extends to such other persons, e.g. contractors and members of the public, who may be affected by the activities within the post holder’s remit. The post holder also has a general responsibility to contribute to the effective management of health, safety and welfare across the Company as a whole.
2. Carry out scheduled maintenance and defect repairs on Companies fleet of vehicles, plant and equipment to include light and heavy vehicles, specialist vehicles such as mechanical sweepers, refuse vehicles, plant and trailers.
3. Carry out safety inspection, services and PDI’s to manufactures standards in line with the required inspection criteria, as outlined in the DVSA (HGV/PSV) inspections manual
4. Prepare and submit HGV vehicles to DVSA approved test facility for annual MOT testing
5. Carry out MOT and Taxi testing including QC, on all vehicles at our Mot station, including private and light commercial vehicles
6. Operate mobile response breakdown service to attend offsite breakdowns and effect necessary repairs
7. Plan and co-ordinate work and repairs with minimal direct supervision
8. To assess damage, check availability of and order necessary parts, arrange collection/delivery of parts and carry out effective repairs to high standard
9. To maintain computer and written records of all jobs from start to finish to include repairs carried out, parts used, start and finish time, total hours taken, time VOR etc
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
10. A minimum of three years technical/mechanical experience of working in an HGV workshop.
11. Health and Safety experience.
12. Good knowledge and understanding of mechanics, electrics and hydraulics systems
13. The ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, management and user department representatives, suppliers and contractors.
14. Experience in use of Tranman or similar systems
15. Motor Vehicle Technology (Heavy) City and Guilds – Part 2 and 3 or equivalent (NVQ Level 3)
16. Component overhaul Specialist skills (Pneumatic Welding, Hydraulics, Electrical systems)
17. Full clean drivers licence Class B + E
18. LGV Drivers Licence Class C
19. Enthusiastic and flexible. Willing to work evening. Bank holidays, weekends if required, to meet the needs of the business.
