Job Description
We are looking for a talented Product Engineering Specialist to join our team specialising in Pneumatic & Electro-Pneumatic Brake Control Valves for our Cummins Drivetrain & Braking Systems Business Unit in Cwmbran, Wales, United Kingdom.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
* Drive Innovation: Lead the development of advanced pneumatic and electro-pneumatic brake control valves, enhancing the safety and efficiency of Medium and Heavy-Duty Commercial Vehicles.
* Guide Design Excellence: Direct the design activities of both experienced and less experienced engineers, ensuring high-quality and innovative product designs.
* Enhance Reliability: Lead DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and DVP&R (Design Verification Plan and Report) activities to identify and mitigate potential design risks, ensuring product reliability and safety.
* Optimise Performance: Support the systems engineering group in creating detailed air/mass-flow analyses, contributing to the optimal performance of braking systems.
* Facilitate Quality Decisions: Gather and integrate input from various stakeholders to make informed decisions that drive project progress without compromising quality.
* Lead Process Improvement: Lead the development and improvement of work processes and systems, ensuring efficient and high-quality engineering practices across the business unit.
* Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with Software Controls and Systems engineering teams to ensure that products meet all required specifications and standards.
* Mentor Future Leaders: Mentor and develop less experienced engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the team.
Responsibilities
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
* Expertise in Braking Systems: A solid understanding of braking system performance and its impact on vehicle dynamics.
* Product Development Skills: Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate, and execute product development activities, ensuring alignment with requirements and technical profiles, while managing resources and quality expectations.
* Problem-Solving Abilities: Proficiency in solving product issues by identifying root causes, implementing data-driven solutions, and preventing recurrence to protect customer interests.
* Mechanical Design Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems to create innovative and robust design concepts that meet lifecycle requirements and customer expectations.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Mechatronics engineering, or any related engineering field. A master's degree in engineering is highly desired.
* Significant work experience with Pneumatic Braking Systems used in Medium and Heavy-Duty Commercial Vehicles.
* Experience designing pneumatic or electro-pneumatic valves for Braking Controls.
* Desirable: Experience with braking systems vehicle testing activities on test tracks/proving grounds (ABS, ASR, ESC, etc.).
* Advantageous: Experience with vehicle network topology (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, etc.) and E&E architecture.
