Westcountry Case Management - Maximising potential for over 20 years!\n\nPlease note as we do not hold a valid company sponsorship licence, we cannot consider applications from candidates requiring a Certificate of Sponsorship.\n\nWe have a great opportunity for a Female Support Worker* to work with a lady with cerebral palsy in her own home in the Cardiff Area. The role is to provide practical support and ensure safety with everyday activities in the community such as shopping, attending appointments.\n\nRole will involve all personal & domestic care, as well as supporting client to attend and participate in a wide range of different activities, including attending the gym / boxing as well as supporting client to care for her cat and dog. The client completes head painting and runs regular market stalls, the support worker will need to assist with these.
\n\nPrevious experience, full driving licence are essential.\n\nPurpose\nTo work as part of a team providing support and care for the client ensuring safety and physical wellbeing. To facilitate the client's independence by adopting the appropriate approach as advised by the case manager.\n\nAbout the Client:\n\nThe client is a 33-year-old lady with cerebral palsy. She is a bright and fun-loving individual who is very determined to live a fun and active lifestyle.
She lives with her husband, cat and dog and likes to live a full and active lifestyle and be involved in daily activities.\nShe is dependent on one other person to support her mobility indoors; outdoors she is reliant on a powered wheelchair that she is able to operate independently. She requires support with all aspects of personal care, eating / drinking and is dependent on others for all domestic tasks. She is able to communicate her own needs verbally and is always happy to repeat herself if not understood first time.
She is a passionate artist, completing head painting, she regularly runs market stalls within the South Wales area with full support. She attends Megan Baker House for Conductive Education fortnightly, also enjoys attending personal training sessions and is always keen to try different activities.\n\nLooking for Female Support workers\n\nA full UK driving licence is a must\n\nWhat you will be working: \n\n14 hours per week.\n\nTo be able to work flexibly within a rota which will be agile across a month. Regular hours may occur due the nature of shift patterns however, no set days are to be relied upon.\n\nSalary: \n\n£15.00 per hour weekdays\n£16.15 per hour weekends\n£13.16 per hour weekday night / sleep shift\n£13.70 per hour weekend night / sleep shift\nOvertime, no allowance, normal rate.\nBank holiday time and a half\n\nLocation: Client's home (Lisvane) and community in Cardiff.
Also likes to visit Mum in Ross on Wye\n\nWhat you will be doing: \n\nMAIN RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY DUTIES\n\nTo ensure consistency of approach with the client in accordance with advised approaches to care and any emerging therapy aims.\n\nTo liaise with and support the family as required.\n\nTo work as part of a team and communicate appropriately with fellow team members.\n\nTo follow the service user plan as documented for the client.\n\nTo participate in manual handling procedures as specified for the client.\n\nTo ensure opportunity is given to participate in activities as identified by client / others while achieving a balance between work and rest for the client.\n\nTo deliver therapy programmes as advised by professionals involved.\n\nTo assist the client to ensure a high level of hygiene is maintained.\n\nTo complete domestic tasks within the home. Keeping a clean and tidy environment\n\nTo complete laundry duties.\n\nTo complete meal preparation, ensuring client is involved within the process, i.e. chooses the meal.\n\nTo complete food shopping with the client / on behalf of the client.\n\nTo be aware of any significant changes in the client's health, functioning or behaviour, and inform the client's family, case manager and team leader as appropriate.\n\nTo encourage the client's independence as far as possible.\n\nTo support the client to attend therapy appointments both locally and within Leominster\n\nTo be aware of the client's vulnerability and take precautions to protect it.\n\nTo be aware of the client's mobility, visual and cognitive problems and endeavour to cater for these at all times.\n\nTo respect confidentiality at all times.\n\nTo be aware of the client's limitations and strengths.\n\nTo support client in her role as wife, offering emotional support and advice when required\n\nTo support client to care for her cat and dog.\n\nWithin reason, to adapt support according to changing needs, as directed.\n\nTo provide the opportunity for the client to follow therapeutic guidelines.\n\nTo be trained in all relevant skills to undertake role, as identified by the case manager in liaison with other professionals involved in delivery of support for client.\n\nTo adhere to guidelines when taking the client out in a vehicle.\n\nTo be answerable to the client in the first instance and clinically supervised by the case manager.\n\nGeneral Duties:\n\nTo be aware of the problems that the client may have due to her diagnosis.\n\nAttend relevant training days and sessions when the opportunity arises.\n\nAttend and contribute to staff meetings as requested.\n\nTo complete relevant documentation as instructed.\n\nTo use information technology such as email, intranet, electronic records etc.\n\nTo carry out domestic chores as appropriate.\n\nKeep your own record of hours worked on the time sheet.\n\nProvide feedback to the case manager and family on progress/problems.\n\nTo maintain professional boundaries with the client and their family members, adhering to direction from the case manager as appropriate.\n\nTo be aware of the house rules, policies and procedures.\n\nTo organise and manage own time according to delegated workload.\n\nAny other duties commensurate with the level of responsibility of this role.\n\nFull training, supervision and support will be provided as required.\n\nWhat you will have.\n\nQUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED\n\nAt the minimum, applicants will be expected to have some experience of caring for people with physical or learning disabilities.\nYou must be registered with or working towards registration with Social Care Wales.\n\nQualifications (essential):\nYou must hold a recognised qualification (NVQ Level 2 or above or a Diploma) OR have completed the All Wales Induction Framework, or be willing to complete this within 6 months of your start date if successful.\n\nKnowledge / Skills / Abilities (essential):\n\nSome experience of caring or providing care for clients with physical and communication difficulties.\n\nGood understanding of the personal and physical needs of a client with physical and cognitive difficulties.\n\nAbility to follow instructions / guidance.\n\nKnowledge / Skills / Abilities (desirable):\n\nExperience of learning / cognitive / behavioural support.\n\nCompetent IT skills.\n\nPersonal requirements (essential):\n\nAbility to learn and interested in learning new skills.\n\nFlexibility.\n\nReliability.\n\nAble to use own initiative.\n\nConfidentiality discreet.\n\nExcellent communication skills both oral and written.\n\nAbility to build up rapport with client, family and others.\n\nAbility to work as part of a team and within boundaries.\n\nBe able to follow verbal and written instructions.\n\nAbility to maintain accurate and confidential records.\n\nTo be able to maintain a consistent approach.\n\nAble to take and give constructive criticism.\n\nConsideration of others and of the family.\n\nNon-judgmental.\n\nYou must uphold the codes of conduct and professional practice in your work.\n\nYou must relate to the principles and values of the Social Services and Wellbeing (Wales) Act 2014.\n\nPersonal requirements (desirable):\nGood interpersonal skills, willingness to chat / engage with client.\nAbility to read family dynamics, and have awareness of when client wants to be left alone.\nOther requirements (essential):\n\nApplicants must have a full driving licence as you will be expected to drive the clients vehicle (VW Caravelle).\n\nThis position requires a fully enhanced disclosure request from the DBS, which the employer will obtain and fund on your behalf.
