1815 - Occupational Therapist Team Leader (Ortho/Surgical)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and experienced Specialist Occupational Therapist to obtain further leadership experience through a 12-month fixed term/secondment into the team lead position in the Orthopaedic OT team. This successful candidate will work as part of a job share for this role (28.5 Hours).
The successful candidate will provide specialist OT assessment and intervention to the trauma and elective orthopaedic services as well as the general surgery service. This includes the completion of community-based assessments as required within the OT service as well as those within the acute setting.
You will be expected to participate in a rota covering 08:00-18:00. The preferred working days for the successful candidate are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday; however, these may be negotiated on successful application. The service does not currently cover weekends or bank holidays; however, this may change during the course of this role.
The post holder will provide leadership to the orthopaedic team, as well as providing wider leadership cover across other specialities within the OT team, supporting the OT Service Manager at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job
To lead the Orthopaedic and Surgical Occupational Therapy team and undertake all aspects of clinical duties and carry out highly specialised OT assessments with patients with diverse and complex presentations/multiple pathologies.
You will have the knowledge, skills, and expertise to work autonomously without direct supervision, to aid the rehabilitation of patients, prevent deconditioning, reduce length of stay and support discharge and patient flow.
You will inspire your team to use existing resources to the best of their ability for the best outcomes for our patients.
You will work collaboratively with therapy leads across therapies and dietetics.
You will maintain compliance of the service with professional, national, and clinical standards and support the profession in its continuous improvement journey.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
* Current Health Professions Council registration
* COT Accredited APPLE Clinical Fieldwork Educator qualification, or working towards
* Recognised leadership training or working towards
* Member of British Association of Occupational Therapists
* Leadership or Management Qualification (or working towards) Certificate Diploma
* Relevant post-graduate qualifications to masters level, or working towards
* Hold European Computer Driving Licence, or other IT intermediate skills
Knowledge and Awareness
* Specialist knowledge and application of current best practice in Occupational Therapy
* Sound working knowledge of Acute Medical, orthopaedic, surgical and Elderly related conditions and the impact on Occupational Health
* Understanding of joint working in the management of patients requiring acute rehabilitative intervention
* Understanding of current OT and where AHPs fit into the NHS Plan, or an ability to develop this
* Understanding of NHS direction and partnership working
* Working knowledge of the use of the NHS KSF for performance appraisal and creation of personal development plans
* Evidence of specific responsibilities (e.g. committee membership)
Experience
* Significant post-qualification experience of OT with experience of working at a senior/specialist level in a relevant field
* Broad range of clinical experience in a variety of OT settings, e.g. must include NHS acute hospital setting
* Managing a team of staff with evidence of appraisal, supervision and teaching
* Documented evidence of continuing professional development (CPD portfolio), post-graduate study
* Management and operational training, e.g. LEO
* Experience of clinical audit and research
* Experience of recruitment and selection
