We are currently advertising a vacant training post for up to a six-month period. The post holder will work in the vacant training post in Sycamore at Northgate Park Hospital (Linhope and Rothbury), experiencing the same training opportunities as a trainee, including regular educational and clinical supervision and access to postgraduate education. However, this post is advertised as a Trust Grade Doctor role, not a training post. Northgate Park in Morpeth, Northumberland, is the main base for this post within the Secure Inpatient Services for adults with mental health and learning disabilities and/or autism. The Secure Inpatients service provides both medium and low secure services. The site is staffed by a multidisciplinary team including psychiatry, nursing, occupational therapy, psychology, speech and language therapy, and physiotherapy. Additionally, there is extensive activity provision, including woodwork, gardening, art, and the recovery college. Main duties of the job The post holder will be based on Linhope ward for 3 days and Rothbury for 2 days of the week. The post holder will be responsible for the completion of daily tasks that have been generated from ward round reviews of inpatients on as well as for assessing, managing and, if necessary, carrying out onward referrals and obtaining medical advice from the acute hospitals for any physical health issues which arise in the inpatients. The post holder will be responsible for completing full clerking of new inpatients on the ward which involves taking a full psychiatric history and collateral history, carrying out physical examination of all systems, obtaining blood samples for laboratory testing and ECG. The post holder will also be required to prescribe any medications patients are admitted on. They will be supervised by the Consultant Psychiatrist on Linhope and SAS doctor on Rothbury ward and will attend all ward rounds and MDT discussions, working closely with the wider MDT on the wards. Regular clinical reviews of mental state will be completed by the postholder to aid the MDT and ward rounds in decision making. Person Specification Qualifications and Training Essential • MB BS (or equivalent). • Registered with the GMC. • Shall have completed foundation training or have equivalent experience and competencies.
