About the Role
Due to retirement and our increasing patient list size, the team at Maltings Surgery have an exciting opportunity for a practice nurse to join an outstanding, award winning practice and develop new skills whilst being supported by a friendly and innovative team. This position is offered on a full or part time basis.
The successful individual will receive significant support from the clinical team to develop in this role. You will be responsible for the delivery of general practice nursing to the whole practice population. The focus of the role is both the delivery of evidence-based practice for patients presenting with long term conditions, and the provision of preventative healthcare to the practice population.
Main duties include:
* Conduct chronic disease management, particularly in asthma and COPD clinics.
* Administer vaccinations, including flu and pneumococcal immunisations.
* Work collaboratively with the team to improve respiratory care pathways and patient outcomes.
* Obtaining blood samples.
* Electrocardiograms (ECGs).
* Minor and complex wound management including leg ulcers and removal of sutures.
* Family planning and women's health including cervical smears.
* Screening and helping patients to manage long term conditions.
* Complete asthma/peak flow readings.
* Educate patients on managing their respiratory conditions and promote self-care.
* Carry out general practice nursing duties, including wound care, cervical cytology, and health checks.
About the Candidate
All applicants should have the following qualifications, registrations, skills and experience:
Essential:
* Registered Nurse with a current NMC registration.
* Proven experience in a primary care or community setting.
* Good working knowledge of infection control procedures, protocols and guidance.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Willingness to undertake further training for the advancement of the service where required.
Desirable:
* Experience in general practice with a special interest in respiratory.
* Able to plan and organise, setting and maintaining goals and high standards for themselves and others.
* Use EMIS or other clinical systems.

Our market city boasts excellent local schools and easy commuter links to both London and the countryside. Friendly and supportive to our core, we are lucky to have a variety of skilled team members including physiotherapists, mental health nurses, social prescriber and health coaches. We also have two in-house paramedics for minor illness and home visits. We host a range of trainees including ST1’s ST3’s FY2s and UCLH medical students.
