Specialised Therapy Assistant - Paediatric Physiotherapy

An exciting opportunity is available for a Specialised Therapy Assistant working in a Paediatric Physiotherapy service. The post holder will be part of North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Therapy Services providing high quality rehabilitation to children and young adults.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Assist and work under the direction of the therapist in the implementation of the assessed management plan for child/young adult.
2. Assist in carrying out duties assigned to that department including administration duties.
3. Work as a member of a multidisciplinary team to deliver individual therapy programmes to children and young adults both at home and in their educational setting.
4. Undertake any other duties deemed reasonable and appropriate by the Clinical Team Lead/Operational Lead or Service Lead for Paediatric therapy services.
Job Responsibilities
1. Be a caring responsible person, who can work well under instruction, as well as independently.
2. Deliver pre-set therapy programmes following assessment by a state registered physiotherapist.
3. Undertake basic assessment of each patient's condition, observing significant changes and accurately reporting these to the primary therapist.
4. Possess good communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills, with a reasonable standard of literacy and numeracy.
5. Work unsupervised in children/young adults' homes following prescribed treatment programmes and act as a mentor/trainer in educational settings.
6. Participate as lead or co-facilitator in group treatments, as directed by a qualified therapist.
7. Organise and prioritise delegated work tasks and activities, being flexible to the needs of the service.
8. Have basic knowledge of paediatric clinical medical conditions and how they may present.
9. Manage own caseload as delegated by the Therapist working within the hospital and community.
10. Provide rehabilitation programmes to children and young adults in their homes and educational settings.
11. Implement therapeutic procedures as directed by therapists and modify programmes within defined competencies.
12. Assist in increasing the functional independence of children and young adults through various therapeutic interventions.
13. Participate in training/mentoring of support staff and teachers in schools.
14. Deliver, fit, and demonstrate equipment to children and young adults post-assessment by the therapist.
15. Act with initiative and follow protocols in case of incidents in the community/educational settings.
16. Report any changes or difficulties regarding patients' therapeutic programmes to the therapist.
17. Liaise with other disciplines/agencies regarding rehabilitation plans.
18. Participate in personal and service development including CPD.
19. Maintain good customer relations and assist with administration tasks within the service area.
20. Maintain a clean therapeutic environment and monitor stock levels of equipment.
21. Be familiar with referral agencies/procedures and documentation used by therapists.
22. Comply with Health & Safety, Fire, CPR, COSHH, and Manual Handling regulations.
23. Participate in audit/clinical governance and evidence-based practice.
24. Abide by Trust Policies and Procedures.
25. Liaise with all agencies, carers, and professionals involved in service delivery.
26. Work as part of the extended multi-disciplinary team with educational support staff and teachers.
27. Enhance and develop relationships with other Services associated with the Service.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Interview
* High standard of literacy and numeracy - GCSE English and Maths
* Evidence of further education - NVQ/or equivalent
Experience
* Experience working with children
* Demonstrated knowledge of therapeutic activities
* Experience delivering a programme to the child
* Experience working in an MDT
* Experience with children needing specialised equipment
Knowledge
* Basic knowledge of paediatric conditions
* Ability to navigate various IT systems and software packages
* Knowledge of Microsoft packages, Systm1, ELMs (TCES), and Oracle
* Knowledge of General Data Protection Regulation
Skills and Attributes
* Able to work independently and under direction
* Good organisational and timekeeping skills
* Valid UK driving licence with access to a vehicle
Management/Supervision
* Some experience in training/mentoring individuals
* Evidence of delivering group sessions
