Role Summary
Our Aerospace client based in Hamble are seeking a contractor to join them as a Skilled Fitter. In this highly skilled role, you will be responsible for stripping, repairing, and assembling aircraft structures, components, and sub-assemblies for various aircraft. Reporting directly to the Flow Leader/Shop Floor Manager, you will collaborate with functional specialists (e.g., engineering, quality) to ensure production requirements are met safely, on time, and to customer specifications.
Essential Responsibilities
EHS Compliance: Promote a safe workplace environment, adhere to Environmental, Health and Safety policies, and report all accidents and incidents.
Clocking and Booking: Ensure accurate and timely clockings (time and attendance) and job bookings (costings).
Housekeeping: Maintain cleanliness and organization at workstations, storing tools and equipment correctly.
Quality Assurance: Comply with all quality standards, processes, and procedures, completing work with care to minimize waste.
Cost Management: Support cost reduction initiatives by minimizing unnecessary expenditure.
Knowledge & Skills Development: Keep knowledge and training up to date, including maintaining Approved Operator (AO) stamps.
Team Collaboration: Actively participate in team meetings, share knowledge, and mentor trainees as needed.
Role Specific Duties
Hold Approved Operator (AO) stamp for necessary operations, ensuring compliance with specifications and standards.
Read and interpret work instructions, specifications, technical drawings, and maintenance data.
Operate independently with minimal supervision.
Complete work route cards accurately to maintain component traceability.
Perform precision tasks such as measuring, marking, drilling, and assembly techniques (e.g., riveting, bonding).
Assemble pipework and conduct alignment, rigging, pressure, and functional testing of aircraft control systems.
Requirements
NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Engineering or Manufacturing, or a time-served apprenticeship in allied trades.
Proficient numeracy, literacy, and IT skills, with the ability to read and understand technical documentation.
Strong planning and problem-solving abilities.
Working knowledge of 5S and lean principles.
Positive work ethic and excellent communication skills.
Attention to detail and accuracy in task execution.
Proven ability to participate in a team culture and work independently.
Capability to perform mechanical/manual lifting of parts, with appropriate assistance as needed.
Desirable Qualifications/Experience
Previous experience in manufacturing complex metallic and composite structures.
Right to Work Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance is required and must be maintained. Inability to obtain BPSS clearance may result in ineligibility for the role. Adherence to ITAR restrictions
