We have 2 vacancies for full-time Band 4 Senior Medical Secretary to join our ENT team. This is a maternity cover till January 2026. This would be an exciting opportunity for anybody who wishes to progress their secretarial career or build on their current Medical Secretary experience.
Main duties of the job
As a Senior Medical Secretary, you will work within a multi-disciplinary team and be responsible for a range of duties related to patient pathway management, including but not limited to:
1. Managing an outpatient and inpatient waiting list for a specific Consultant
2. Arranging elective admissions
3. Diary management
4. Audio transcription and word processing of clinical letters
5. Production of reports and other correspondence as required
You will also have involvement with our Multi Disciplinary Cancer teams.
You should be literate and numerate, with excellent organisational, time management, and IT skills, and an ability to work without supervision.
Medical secretarial and typing experience is essential. A typing test will be required at the interview.
You will have a high standard of communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with staff at all levels. You will have enthusiasm, motivation, and demonstrate pride in your work.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Educated to GCSE standard*
* An appropriate speed and accuracy of typing is required for this role and will be assessed at the interview
* Medical Secretary Diploma
* Advanced secretarial qualifications
Experience
* Previous Medical Secretarial Experience
* Experience in developing and implementing administrative systems, processes, and procedures
* Line Management/supervisory experience including recruitment, appraisal, etc.
Skills
* Literacy and Numeracy skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to achieve thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task
Knowledge
* Sound knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office packages, including Excel and PowerPoint, internet, e-mail, etc.
* Knowledge of Patient Administration System (or equivalent system)
* Working knowledge of Trust's Access Policy and other National/Local targets, i.e., Cancer, RTT, non-applicable, planning and management of inpatient and outpatient waiting lists.
* Knowledge of Medical Terminology
