Our client is looking to recruit a temporary Amenities Operative to work within Stamford Town Centre, initially for about 1 month however there is a possibility of this role becoming permanent. The Amenities Operative is responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of a wide range of street-scene and horticultural-related activities on land owned and maintained by the client. This role involves providing efficient, high-quality, skilled maintenance of the grounds, parks, and open spaces, ensuring these areas are safe, clean, and attractive for public use. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Maintenance Tasks: • Support the maintenance of the Town Centre, open spaces, recreation areas, play equipment, public footpaths, St. Michael’s Churchyard, allotments, cemetery, meadows, and Town Hall. • Undertake year-round outdoor work in various areas maintained by the Town Council, working as part of a team and completing all duties involved in seeding, planting, pruning, and maintenance using manual and powered hand-tools and light plant apparatus. • Maintain formal flowerbeds and other horticultural projects within open spaces, including containers and hanging baskets. 2. General Maintenance: • Perform general maintenance tasks such as grass cutting, hedge trimming, clearing leaves, litter picking, emptying waste bins, cleansing public conveniences on the Recreation Ground and Red Lion Square, and gritting. 3. Compliance and Safety: • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with the needs of the Council and meets all relevant legal requirements. • Alert the Facilities & Allotment Officer/ Council Housekeeper/Town Clerk immediately to any issues arising from third-party damage to Council property, vandalism, anti-social behaviour, or fallen branches. • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations for oneself and colleagues and report any deviations to the Facilities & Allotment Officer/ Council Housekeeper/Town Clerk. • Use the correct equipment safely, wearing necessary personal protective equipment, including Hi-Vis clothing at all times. 4. Equipment and Security: • Serve as a key holder and assist in ensuring the security of all equipment, tools, machinery, and buildings. • Maintain any issued uniform in good condition and act in a manner that does not bring the council into disrepute. 5. Additional Duties: • Undertake any other duties connected with the maintenance of areas within the remit of this job description and any tasks as may be identified from time to time. • Contribute to investigations into complaints and inquiries from the public and colleagues in accordance with good service practice. • Provide cover for other Amenities Operatives when necessary. • Work overtime duties when required, with appropriate advance notice given, as sanctioned by the Town Clerk in conjunction with the Facilities & Allotment Officer. QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: Essential: • Proven experience in grounds maintenance, horticulture, or a related field. • Knowledge of plant care, gardening techniques, and landscaping. • Proficiency in using manual and powered hand tools and light plant apparatus. • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and practices. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Good communication and interpersonal skills. • Physical fitness and the ability to perform strenuous tasks and work in various weather conditions. • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic. Desirable: • Formal qualifications in horticulture, grounds maintenance, or a related discipline. • Experience working in a public sector or local government environment. • Basic understanding of environmental sustainability practices. • First aid training or certification
