GSL Education Newcastle Branch are currently collaborating with an outstanding secondary school in South Shields that is seeking an empathetic and dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team. This role comes with pride in helping students achieve their full potential through tailored support and innovative teaching methods.
The Role:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with SEMH needs, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their educational goals. This position involves working closely with students, teachers and other support staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Responsibilities of an SEMH Teaching Assistant:
* Provide one-on-one and group support to students with SEMH needs, helping them to engage with their learning and manage their emotions and behaviour.
* Assist teachers in delivering engaging lessons and adapting materials and strategies to meet the needs of SEMH students.
* Track and report on the progress of students, identifying areas for improvement and celebrating successes.
* Implement effective behaviour management strategies, promoting positive behaviour and addressing challenging behaviour appropriately.
* Offer emotional support and guidance to students, helping them to develop coping strategies and build resilience.
* Maintain regular communication with teachers, parents and external agencies to ensure a coordinated approach to supporting students.
The successful candidate will:
* Have previous experience working alongside students with SEMH in a secondary school setting.
* Have good organisational abilities, strong communication and classroom management skills and the capacity to run a classroom efficiently.
* Have an understanding and compassionate approach to helping the students.
* Have flexibility and adaptability to work in a secondary school environment.
* Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
