Job Description
As our Crane Controller/COSS, you will work alongside our in-house On Track Plant team, carrying out COSS and Crane Controller duties.
As our Crane Controller/COSS, you will be responsible for:
· The safe operation of plant on site, ensuring all work is compliant with internal procedures, regulations and legislation at all times
· Ensuring that all work is completed in line with risk assessments, task briefings and safe systems of work
· Safely transporting loads on site, lifting to prepared plans
· Maintaining exclusions zone around plant, to allow them to operate safely and to ensure the safety of all persons on site
· Maintain good working practices, sharing knowledge and explaining technical information clearly to non-technical audiences
· Responding sensitively and appropriately to queries from lineside residents
· Maintaining safe and tidy work areas – ensuring all HSE site safety/regulations are adhered to with regard to site briefings, inductions, signing in, etc.
· Undertake other activities associated with railway construction work for which the individual is deemed competent as required and directed
· Adhere to Company Policies and Procedures.
· Be a COOMBES ambassador, upholding and reflecting the ethos and values of the Company.
· Work in accordance with COOMBES’ Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy
· Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required by the Company
· Work flexibly and be receptive and adaptable to a changing environment within a growing Company
Experience working as a POS Representative would be advantageous, but not essential as full training is available for the successful candidate.
To be successful as our Crane Controller/COSS, we would ideally like you to have the following skills/experience:
• Previous experience of handling different types of cranes or lifting equipment, and/or of working in similar role
• Personal Track Safety (PTS)
• Competent in the implementation of current CDM regulations
• A good understanding of, and application of health, safety & environment practices
• Flexibility in your approach to work and problem-solving skills
• Good communication skills
• Self-motivated and a team player
• Full UK driving licence
• COSS/IWA/MEWP certificate

This role can be physically demanding, and some tasks will be at heights. You will be required to work outside, so you must be happy to work in all that the British weather has to offer.
