This role will be based in London, UK and you are required to have the necessary right to work details prior to application.
We are looking for a GL Assistant Underwriter to join our International Casualty division in London.
This role will have both personal and collective responsibility for supporting the growth and profitability of the GL portfolio through underwriting of new and renewal business, in line with appetite. Additionally, you will develop and maintain relationships with Brokers.
Reporting relationships
* Reports directly to Head of General Liability
* Works in close co-operation with team colleagues
Responsibilities
* Underwrite new and renewal accounts in accordance with planned underwriting appetite, through proactive account review, analysis of underwriting trends and improvement plans, to maintain profitability.
* Negotiate account participation, pricing, and negotiate terms and conditions including policy coverage with brokers.
* Underwrite in line with the GL underwriting framework - e.g. Underwriting Authorities, Raters, Underwriting Guidelines, Rules and Principles.
* Support the management of binders and lineslips.
* Present underwriting rationale and evaluation where specific accounts fall outside of underwriting authority.
* Support development and execution of the GL underwriting and marketing strategies.
* Work closely with the Head of General Liability and wider underwriting team to drive development opportunities.
* Proactively support the acquisition of new business and retention of existing business through both market and one-on-one meetings with our Insureds / potential Insureds.
* Support Head of General Liability to perform required marketing with broker partners including structured broker presentations on GL appetite.
* Contribute, as required, to monthly, quarterly and annual reporting of underwriting results.
* Running and producing internal reports and figures using Pipeline, GURU 2.0 and NetStats.
* Ensures that all policies and procedures are adhered to.
* Adhere to any common standards set across the company and ensures that policies and procedures are adequately documented.
* Undertake continued Professional Development, and comply with all The Hartford procedures.
Qualifications and Capabilities
* Reasonable standard of education.
* Willingness to continue to develop knowledge of Insurance and related issues through formal and informal learning.
* Ability to prioritise and organise workload and meeting deadlines.
* Have a detailed and methodical approach to underwriting.
* Ability to develop and sustain relationships with internal and external customers.
* Knowledge of general insurance and its underlying principles.
* Strong team working ethic.
Experience
* Relevant market experience within the UK Liability and/or International GL marketplace.
* Sound baseline understanding of insurance market.
