Main Purpose
To provide high quality housing related services to asylum seekers accommodated by the Home Office.
Specific tasks
1. Assist asylum seekers move into dispersed accommodation throughout South Yorkshire provided by Target Housing.
2. Induct tenants into Target Housing accommodation, explaining house rules and terms of occupancy agreement.
3. Assist tenants with GP registration in their local area. Offer support with any urgent health care needs by contacting relevant local services.
4. Provide tenants with details of local services that offer help and support to asylum seekers.
5. Provide details of local education providers including English classes.
6. Ensure tenants have access to correct cash funds.
7. Support clients to understand their rights and responsibilities under their accommodation arrangements.
8. Carry out regular visits (twice monthly) to ensure the accommodation is in good general repair.
9. Carry out low-level maintenance tasks such as cleaning, decorating, changing light bulbs, etc.
10. Report other maintenance issues within Target Housing accommodation.
11. Ensure visits and events are properly recorded (and signed where necessary) and copied to relevant officers in the organisation.
12. Build links with external organisations providing services to asylum seekers and refugees to maintain constructive working relations so that clients' needs are met.
13. Serve tenants with NTQ when the accommodation arrangements come to an end. Assist the tenants to find alternative accommodation with local authority or private rental.
14. Close cases accordingly with service delivery procedures and contractual obligations.
General tasks
1. Attend and participate in training sessions or activities as required.
2. Participate in team meetings and supervision as required.
3. Perform other such duties as may be required to further the aims of Target Housing.
4. Adhere to all of Target Housing's policies and procedures and in particular our Equal Opportunities, Confidentiality and Health and Safety policies.
5. Carry out other such duties as directed by senior managers as appropriate to the aims of Target Housing.
Person specifications
1. Experience of providing support to vulnerable people in a housing environment.
2. Good understanding of challenges ethnic minorities may face.
3. Understanding of immigration regulations and the asylum seeking process (Desirable).
4. Understanding of Child Protection legislation in the UK.
5. Knowledge of Health and Safety in accommodation.
6. No criminal records.
7. Full British Clean Driving License.
8. Satisfy Immigration and rights to work in the UK.
