Main duties of the job
The role:
To assist in the daily preparation of cooked nutritious meals for service users ensuring food is of a high quality.
Your main duties would include:
1. Assisting in the planning and preparation a varied choice of menus, ensuring properly balanced and nutritious meals are provided, taking into account any special dietary requirements and service user preferences.
2. Assisting in ensuring that the storage, preparation and cooking of all food is carried out using the highest standards of hygiene.
3. Being responsible for the storage and use of cleaning items in accordance with COSHH.

Job responsibilities
MAIN PURPOSE
To assist in the dailypreparation of cooked nutritious meals for service users ensuring food is of ahigh quality
To ensure health,safety, environment and hygiene standards are achieved and maintained.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May be required todeputise in absence of Chef
To assist in theplanning and preparation a varied choice of menus, ensuring properly balancedand nutritious meals are provided, taking into account any special dietaryrequirements and service user preferences
To follow any dietaryor food preparation guidelines as provided in service user care plans andguidance by health care professionals
To assist in ensuringthat the storage, preparation and cooking of all food is carried out using thehighest standards of hygiene
To assist the Chef inmaintaining appropriate levels of stock and may be required to place orders offood when required
Ensure high standardsof food management within current Food Hygiene regulations and policies andprocedures
To use electrical andmechanical catering equipment as appropriate
To ensure any defectsand faults in catering equipment are reported to the Chef
To be responsible forthe storage and use of cleaning items in accordance with COSHH
Ensure responsibilitieswith regards to Food Hygiene and preparation and Health and Safety requirementsare followed and to inform the Chef of anything that does not meet requiredstandards
To contribute to otherfood related functions as required by the service
Establish and maintainprofessional working relationships with the service users, contributing to thecreation of a homely and pleasant living environment for each service user
During the course ofyour work you will at all times conduct yourself in a professional manneracting as a role model to colleagues and service users contributing to thedelivery of quality services. To work as a member of the team, contributing tothe team ethos and supporting service users(s) and colleagues appropriately.
You are required toreport any enquiries /issues and/or concerns to the line manager providinginformation to enable them to take appropriate action.
To liaise in aprofessional manner at all times with service user(s) family members, friends,advocates and other professionals as required at your location.
To ensure that allrelevant documentation is completed accurately and effectively in a timelymanner.
To work on a rota whichmay include weekend and bank holiday working
To undertake any otherduties as may from time to time be specified by Brainkind, that is within thelevel and responsibility appropriate to the grade of post
To undertake, anyreasonable travelling requirements, in order to fulfil the tasks andresponsibilities of the role.

Qualifications
Essential
4. Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
5. Experience of working in a kitchen environment.
6. Awareness of Health and Safety relevant to catering.
7. A knowledge of portion, stock control and food cost control.
8. Ability to follow food guidelines
Desirable
9. First Aid at Work certificate.
10. Experience of working with vulnerable adults/care setting.
11. Experience of catering within a commercial or care setting.
