Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Sheffield, South Yorkshire, UK
Overview: A well-established and innovative machinery manufacturer in Sheffield is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer. This role offers the opportunity to work within a team dedicated to developing bespoke machinery solutions for a global customer base. You will play a key role in designing and refining concepts and products using industry-standard tools such as SolidWorks and EPDM, with a focus on various industrial technologies including dot peen, laser, and scribe systems.
Responsibilities:
1. Design marking systems for industrial applications with an emphasis on modularity, simplicity, and precision.
2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including software, manufacturing, and assembly to ensure seamless project delivery.
3. Create and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for manufacturing and installation using SolidWorks.
4. Produce technical documentation and operator manuals for designed systems.
5. Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and ensure designs meet performance, cost, and compliance standards.
6. Manage design projects from concept through to production, including working with suppliers and managing Bills of Materials in ERP systems.
7. Engage with customers and provide technical advice, ensuring bespoke solutions meet their unique requirements.
8. Occasional travel to customer sites, including opportunities for international travel.
Requirements:
1. HND/Degree level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
2. Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design, particularly within industrial applications.
3. Strong knowledge of SolidWorks 3D design package, including Enterprise PDM and DraftSight.
4. In-depth understanding of mechanical engineering principles such as pneumatics, hydraulics, sheet metal work, and materials.
5. Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong communication skills.
6. Ability to work autonomously and in collaboration with diverse teams.
Desirable Skills:
1. Experience with electromechanical controls (PLCs/PCs).
2. Familiarity with FEA and ISO 9001 standards.
3. Understanding of electrical engineering or electronics (experience with SolidWorks Electrical is a plus).
