Design Engineering Manager

Our client, leaders in their industry, are looking for a Design Engineering Manager who will oversee their busy technical department. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall engineering of products from initial design through to handover.
Design Engineering Manager Roles and Responsibilities:
1. See customer orders from initial design through to pre-production, overseeing the design, prototyping sign-off, and handover processes.
2. The coordination of the company’s design process to ensure sales and production dates are met.
3. Develop and write the product legislative requirements, ensuring internal records of the design, fabrication, and revisions are kept according to UKCA requirements.
4. Responsible for new product development, ensuring design, production, and project management work together to meet specifications and timelines.
5. Ensuring compliance by developing and implementing robust internal design processes and procedures.
6. Develop and write department literature for internal and external processes, and collaborate with production to write and review SOPs for each stage of build.
7. Act as a mentor and line manager for 3 team members, managing relevant KPIs and recruitment needs.
8. Oversee and lead internal projects aimed at streamlining the design engineering process within the company.
9. Oversee design projects, acting as the point of contact for sales and production, ensuring deadlines are met and drawings and bills of materials are of production standard.
10. Produce testing procedures and oversee documentation of results.
11. Ensure that customer requirements are understood, investigating product development within cost and time parameters.
12. Manage the warranty review process and lead the ISO audit process for design, finding root causes and resolving issues.
The ideal Design Engineering Manager will:
1. Have worked for an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).
2. Have a background in Agricultural or Heavy Machinery.
3. Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
4. Have a minimum of 5 years leading a design team.
5. Possess solid technical knowledge and understanding of product/process design.
6. Have a sound technical background & knowledge of BS308/BS8888.
7. Have extensive design documentation experience.
8. Have experience with mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
9. Possess sound knowledge of IT systems in general and CAD in particular.
10. Have a good working knowledge of MRP, which is highly desirable.
Working Hours + Benefits:
1. Monday - Thursday: 08:17:00
2. Friday: 08:00 – 14:00
3. Hours may vary depending on company requirements.
4. Time back in lieu.
5. 30-minute lunch break, 2x15 minutes break in the morning and afternoon (paid).
