We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
To assist and support all trade craftsmen on all new and routine maintenance and repair tasks. To carry out planned preventative maintenance (ppm) / defect works autonomously in accordance with statutory requirements, technical guidance and codes of practice. To carry out basic fault diagnosis.
To carry out Estates Support Work across all trade groups in a safe environment and to a high quality. Applies to electrical, mechanical engineering and building services, plant, non-medical equipment and the full range of building fabric.
Ensure the safe operation of all maintenance tools and equipment and security of all plant, equipment and buildings under the jurisdiction of the Estates Department
To act as an accompanied safety person as and when required, including any complex tasks requiring a safety permit to work.
To undertake general cleaning/tidying duties in workshops, plant rooms, stores, rest rooms, canteens and any other areas under the jurisdiction of the works department.
To work on drainage and rainwater systems both internally and externally within the hospital environment, replace lamps, take meter readings, thermal imaging, movement of materials.
It is the responsibility of all employees to be fully aware of and comply with all Trust policies and procedures including:- Fire Safety, Infection Control, Heath & Safety at Work Act, COSHH Regulations and Manual Handling guidance and safe systems of work, Lone Worker Policy and Major Incident Plan. All employees must undertake appropriate mandatory training in respect of these policies.
To maintain records of work and actively participate in the operation of the Estates Management Information System including completion of all paperwork required by the scheme in a timely manner (including timesheets). Refer to and understand basic system drawings and information.
Support induction of new starters and undertake training where necessary and to learn new techniques across trade areas.
To be able to work on all Trust properties, clinics and wards which may contain a wide range of patients and disciplines. To assist / liaise with contractors, utility suppliers and other external service providers.
To work overtime when available, depending on the Trust’s requirements and assist Estate personnel with emergency services in the event of an incident.
Staff will conduct risk assessments and complete action/treatment plans for all tasks as part of the training plan.
Notify immediately the Engineering Manager/Building Manager/Supervisor of any problems within the hospitals that may be of danger to patients, staff or members of the public.
To carry out site based surveys in line with the programme for energy conservation and report all defects to the Engineering Manager/Supervisor. To take operational measurements of electrical and mechanical systems.
Drive Trust vehicles to assist in the collection and delivery of maintenance items under the permission of the Supervisor.
To carry out statutory testing to ensure compliance with insurance requirements, legislation and Health Technical Memorandum (HTM). Emergency Light Function Testing, Legionellae temperature testing etc. as required.
To work in hazardous / high risk areas on completion of suitable training, PPE, permit and authorisation.
