The School seeks to appoint a full-time Director of Art from September 2025. Harrow School is situated in Harrow on the Hill in north-west London. The School is located on a 324-acre estate which encompasses much of Harrow on the Hill and is one of the best-known schools in the world. Around 837 boys study at Harrow and live in the School’s 12 boarding houses. The Art department is a centre of excellence at Harrow. All boys study the subject in their first year and some 40-50 boys typically continue to GCSE (Edexcel Fine Art). Around 20 boys normally take the A level Fine Art course (Edexcel) and around 20 opt for the Edexcel A level Photography course. We also offer the A-level qualification in History of Art. The department has an exemplary track record of results in these public examinations.
There are currently five full-time teachers, two part-time teachers and three full-time art technicians in the Art department. There is also a part-time dedicated A Level Photography technician.
The successful applicant will have overall responsibility for the teaching and administration of Art at Harrow, within and outside the timetable; teach at all levels throughout the School; lead the department in maintaining the highest academic standards and developing best practice in the teaching of Art; lead and develop the super-curricular provision of the department, which includes Electives, lectures and all other academic extension; lead the department’s university preparation for boys applying for Art and other similar courses; have oversight of the department’s work with the Admissions department; attend Chapel regularly and Speech Room (assembly) once a week; be a tutor in a boarding House, supporting the House Master in the pastoral care of a group of boys in that House; contribute to co-curricular activities, which are an important part of boarding school life and teach PSHEE to tutees.

Support and training to achieve Qualified Teacher Status can be offered if required. We occasionally appoint Masters with outstanding qualities and a good degree who do not have a formal teaching qualification
