You will be working as part of the night team to provide support to our homeless clients across two services. You will love helping others by being on hand when they need you. Your primary role will be to keep our service and the people that use it, safe. Your can-do attitude towards your work and others will contribute to a positive working environment. You will have a calm and personable manner and be resilient to potentially difficult situations. This in turn will promote mutual respect, dignity, stability, confidence and self –worth.
Our night workers will usually work a 12 hour (waking) shift on a four night on, four night off rota. Although these are long shifts, you will get four days off after, which can provide a great work life balance.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
* You will be the first welcoming friendly face for people accessing the service
* You will provide informal support to clients and be a listening ear
* You will respond to telephone calls and visits by external staff
* You will be extremely conscientious in areas such as safeguarding and lone working and follow the relevant procedures
* You will manage clients and their visitors within the building and any associated safety management
* You will manage clients and visitors in the immediate external areas and any associated safety issues
* You will deal with any incidents that may arise and contact external services when necessary
* You will help to maintain a welcoming, safe environment, identifying and minimising all potential risks to users of the premises, organisation and property
* You will provide detailed handovers to day staff, regarding client safety and support information
* You will carry out light cleaning tasks when required
* You will manage any building issues/maintenance as per the relevant procedure
* You will carry out Health & Safety checks of the building and external areas
* You will triage out of hours issues which may arise in services covered within the Core Homeless Contract and contact the on-call manager where applicable
* You will support your colleagues managing the night service, where required
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA FOR ROLE (Minimum requirements on appointment to this job)
Previous experience in this sector is not essential but you will be able to demonstrate a real passion for wanting to work with vulnerable people in the homeless sector. Our values will be aligned to your own ethics and ideals and you will be committed to changing the life of others for the better.
* Good basic education to GCSE level or equivalent, IT and keyboard skills
* Clear verbal and written English
* Polite, assertive manner, ability to self -motivate
* Experience of working in a client/customer facing role
* Knowledge of the benefits system and tenancy legislation
* Understanding of homelessness and related issues including local resources
* Experience of liaison with voluntary and statutory agencies
