Main duties of the job
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) is excited to announce a unique opportunity for an experienced Ophthalmology Medical Retina nurse to join our expanding Medical Retina team as a Clinical Specialist Nurse (Band 7). This is a brand new and exciting role, created for the first time in our Ophthalmology Unit.
The Medical Retina Suite is growing rapidly, with the expansion of our non medical injection services and a focus on the professional development of our nursing staff. This role promises a range of challenges but also exciting prospects for personal and professional growth as you contribute to shaping the future of Ophthalmology care at UHS.
This is a permanent post with the option of a fixed-term/secondment role for the successful candidate.

Job responsibilities
We are looking for a driven and knowledgeable Ophthalmology nurse with a solid clinical background in the medical retina specialty. In this role, you will be expected to apply your expertise to deliver outstanding patient care and lead a talented team of nurses.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Clinical Expertise: Utilise your in-depth understanding of medical retina conditions to support the delivery of evidence-based and high-quality patient care.
2. Leadership and Team Management: Lead, inspire, and guide your team, fostering a collaborative and motivated environment. You will drive positive change, implement new ways of working, and continuously seek opportunities for service improvement.
3. Service Development: Play a critical role in evolving the Ophthalmology service by introducing innovations that enhance patient and staff experience.
We are seeking a candidate with strong clinical expertise in Ophthalmology- Medical Retina and proven leadership experience. You will play a key role in shaping the future of our service by inspiring your team, driving high standards of patient care, and exploring new and innovative ways of working to improve outcomes and efficiency.
As a Clinical Specialist Nurse B7, you will play a crucial role in providing expert nursing care, and ensuring the highest quality of patient-centred, evidence-based care.

Person Specification
Qualifications, knowledge and experience
Essential
* Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC register
* Level 7 Post Grad Cert (Min 60 Credits), Master's Degree within relevant speciality or equivalent knowledge to be assessed through evidence of relevant speciality training, experience or portfolio
* Specialist training / Qualification in area of practice
* Provide evidence of leading learning in practice
* Evidence of experience and completion of all band 6 competencies within relevant speciality
* Specialist clinical skills and experience within specialist area
* Evidence of change Management, leadership and innovation
* Clinical experience at Band 6 or equivalent within relevant speciality
* Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote learning in practice providing an excellent learning environment for all
* Provide evidence of supporting / managing and supervision of a range of learnings in practice
Desirable
* Counselling / advanced communication skills qualification / training
* Act in the role of Practice Assessor or supporting the progression of learners / supporting challenges as needed
* Multidisciplinary team working
* Experience of nurse-led care / clinics in own practice
