Overview: Morrison Energy Services is recruiting for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to work on contracts throughout the South West. As the Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be part of our Commercial Team responsible for assisting the Commercial Department and project team to maximize profit and reduce risk.
Responsibilities:
1. Compile relevant information for preparation of reports and claims to agreed timescales.
2. Assist with the ongoing implementation of the commercial application in respect of site personnel while developing lasting relationships with Business Unit and Project Managers.
3. Refer to the project risk management plan for thorough, accurate, high-level risk assessment. Monitor the register and any related documentation in accordance with the plan.
4. Ultimate responsibility for all sub-contractor management; ensure all sub-contractors and suppliers have submitted compliant quotations, inquiries, and applications within the required timescale.
5. Produce documentation to select and secure services as well as monthly assessments, variations, CE claims, and final account agreements through coaching of the Quantity Surveyor.
6. Increase knowledge of commercial issues and contract law to manage and agree compensation events, variations, and claims.
7. Suggest and develop processes for increased accuracy and efficiency, minimizing time journal and reconciliation tasks.
8. Liaise with the Commercial Manager and Quantity Surveyor(s) to ensure appropriate commercial cover is maintained.
9. Assist the team and Project Manager, Engineers, and Planners regarding the recovery of contract costs and enhancing project profit by identifying variations, delays, and claims.
10. Assist with the production of monthly project financial and forecast to complete reports for analysis with Finance and Commercial Staff.
11. Develop sound and balanced negotiating skills.
12. Attend handover and progress meetings when requested.
13. Help produce a site commercial manual and documents to record variations.
14. Comply with and contribute to the effective implementation of the current MES Health and Safety Policy, Quality Policy & Environmental Policy.
Skills & Knowledge Requirements:
1. Excellent negotiating, interpersonal & communication skills.
2. Analytical skills.
3. Financial awareness.
4. Excellent IT skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
5. Contract costing.
6. Contract law (NEC3, 4).
7. Previous experience in a Quantity Surveying or Cost Clerk role.
8. Contract experience, capturing site records for variations and valuations; supporting a project team.
9. Subcontract Management.
10. Cost value reconciliation.
11. Qualification in Quantity Surveying.
12. Full UK Driving license.
13. Knowledge of the industry would be ideal.
