Main duties of the job
Cellular Pathology invites applications for the post of an Senior Healthcare Dissection Scientist to join their friendly and experienced team. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and suitably experienced individual supporting the full range of dissection services within Cellular Pathology. This position will work alongside other Scientific Dissectors, Clinical Registrars and Consultant Histopathologists to provide a specimen dissection service for the department. On average we receive ~48,000 Histology & Cytology requests annually.
The post holder will play a crucial role in our specimen dissection services, training and innovation within pathology and will have proven skills in dissection as well as decision making and team leadership.
The department operates 6am-7pm Mon-Fri & Sat 7am-5pm & therefore some Saturday working is required. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in the rotational Bank Holiday service-approx. 1 per annum, currently not Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day or Good Friday.
Job responsibilities
The post holder will perform specimen dissection at an advanced level, and in accordance with the Royal College of Pathologists (RCPath) and relevant guidelines.
The post holder will possess an accredited BSc in Biomedical Sciences and be registered with the HCPC.
The post holder will possess or be working towards an MSc in relevant Life sciences field.
The post holder will possess or be willing to work towards the Institute of Biomedical Scientists/RCPath Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological Dissection.
They will lead in the day-to-day management of the dissection services within Cellular Pathology.
The post holder will participate in the development and implementation of specimen dissection training programs for Cellular Pathology, ensuring high-quality training for biomedical scientists, clinical scientist, and junior clinical staff.
Qualifications, knowledge and experience
* Possess an IBMS accredited BSc in Biomedical sciences
* Possess an MSc in a relevant Life sciences field.
* Experience in dissecting a range of histopathology specimens (Categories A-E) as per RCPath guidelines.
* Evidence of CPD including participating in internal and external training meetings, staying up to date with best practices.
* Detailed knowledge of COSHH and relevant health and safety guidelines.
* Knowledge of HTA guidelines.
* Evidence of participation in departmental research and development initiatives, contributing to studies and innovations that enhance laboratory practices.
* Experience of managing a team.
* Possesses a trust or leadership academy qualification
* Evidence of utilising skills gained from the successful award of the Institute of Biomedical Scientists/RCPath Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological Dissection.
* Evidence of publications or presenting at symposia and conferences.

Salary: £46,148 to £52,809 a year Per Annum (PA) Pro Rata
