Job overview
Responsible for managing a caseload of inquests and personal injury claims, comprised of Employer’s Liability and Public Liability claims and CNST (clinical negligence) claims.
To assist the Director of Legal Services, Deputy Head of Legal Services, Senior Solicitor and Senior Legal Advisor in the day to day administration, conduct and investigations of legal claims and inquests and other legal matters as required.
Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity to work in the legal team at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. You will be responsible for managing a substantial caseload of Coroner’s inquests and clinical negligence claims against the Trust.
You will hold a degree in Law and a relevant postgraduate qualification (LPC or BPTC). Previous experience working as a Paralegal is a significant advantage, particularly experience in the management of clinical negligence/personal injury claims and/or inquests. Experience of working in the NHS or with NHS clients would be an advantage. The role requires an individual who has the confidence and experience to communicate effectively with a wide range of health and legal professionals.
The Trust is a recognised SRA training provider and training contracts have been offered to previous Paralegals who have demonstrated exceptional skill and commitment to the role.

Knowledge and Experience
* CILEX member, Law Degree or equivalent qualification/Experience
* Experience managing a legal caseload
* Experience in communication with clients under pressure
Analytical Skills
* Ability to distil legal issues and produce comprehensive and accurate written and verbal legal analysis
Planning and Organisational
* Strong examples to demonstrate proven organisational skills, including working under pressure and to deadline
* Proven track record managing a large caseload and juggling competing demands under pressure
