Production Manager (Music)
Barbican Centre

About us
We are London’s Creative Catalyst for arts, curiosity, and enterprise. We spark creative possibilities and transformation for artists, audiences, and communities to inspire, connect and provoke debate. Our eclectic programme features the most exciting performers and artists in music, theatre, dance, the visual arts, cinema, and beyond. We work with artists at every stage of their career, supporting and fostering opportunities for ground-breaking new talent as well as promoting the work of world-class artists.
Our boundary-pushing Music programme is renowned for its range, ambition, and inclusivity. Alongside our partners, we provide some of the most exciting musical experiences in the capital, from dazzling classical concerts and opera to unique shows with leading contemporary artists, cutting-edge electronic creations, durational experiences, and cross-arts collaborations.
The role
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic professional to join the Barbican Music team, to co-ordinate all aspects of pre-production and event management.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering Barbican productions to the highest technical and artistic standard, through competent and precise advanced planning, administration, communication, budgeting and the supervision of events. A working knowledge of event travel, hotels, backline, technical riders, staging, visas and FEU tax is required. Evening and weekend work is an integral part of the role.
This position will focus on classical music events of the Music programme in the Barbican Concert Hall and in off-site venues, but with an opportunity to work on all genres. To be successful in your application you will need an extensive and wide-ranging working knowledge of music and the classical music industry, substantial experience in an event management role in a similar environment (multi-disciplinary arts venue, music festival or performing arts organisation, Concert Hall) and a high level of interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills are also essential.
The ability to multitask, work under pressure and excellent interpersonal skills are essential. Weekend and evening work is required in this role.
Please note this role is event production focused and not a technical production role.
This role is advertised as a full-time, permanent role but we are willing to consider part-time requests.
We are looking for someone with:
• A good knowledge and interest in the arts, and in particular classical music.
• A good knowledge of the classical music industry, and a thorough understanding of all the creative processes of music-making.
• Proven experience working in a multi-disciplinary arts venue, major music venue or an events company in an event production role.
• Proven understanding of event production, stage and technical delivery.
You must be able to demonstrate:
• A track record of stakeholder management and the ability to consult with, negotiate and persuade internal and external stakeholders.
• Proven experience of managing complex budgets.
• Proven track record of complex project management.
• An ability to work inclusively and collaboratively across boundaries to achieve positive outcomes.
Closing date: Tuesday 18 February 2025, at 12pm. Please note that we are unable to accept late applications.
Interviews will be held on Thursday 27 February, in person.
Alternatively, please contact 020 7332 3978 (24 hr answerphone) quoting reference number BC1159. A minicom service for the hearing impaired is available on 020 7332 3732.
