Job summary This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a first class multidisciplinary team. We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated band 5 nurse to work in our Cardiac Cath lab at the Royal United Hospital. As a new staff nurse joining our friendly team you be provided with the highest standards of training to provide care to both acutely unwell inpatients and elective patients - making this a unique and varied role. The Cardiac Cathetersation lab is open Sunday to Friday 8am to 6pm there is also an on call service you would be expected to participate in once fully trained. ( Emergency cases) Our patients undergo a wide variety of cardiac procedures in the lab, these include Coronary Angiogram, Percutaneous Coronary Intervention, simple and complex device implantation, Drug Provocation tests, Pulmonary Hypertension diagnostic procedures and the Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Service (PPCI ) If you are motivated, driven and want to be a part of a caring team who are dedicated to delivering high care to our cardiology patients then take time to consider the post. Previous experience in the area of cardiac nursing is desirable, however there is a comprehensive training and induction package in place to support individuals in developing all of the required skills. Main duties of the job To care for ('head') all patients undergoing any Cath Lab procedure and to implement treatment prescribed by medical staff, according to departmental policies. Maintaining accurate and legible records of care. Knowledge and understanding of your role in an emergency situation and acting appropriately. Preparing and 'laying up' sterile trolleys. Preparing the environment appropriately to receive patients for specific procedures and completing daily safety checks of stock and equipment. Competence at removal of intra-arterial/venous sheath and management of haemostasis (stopping bleeding) with arterial closure device. To have specific knowledge about pacemaker leads and modes of pacing in order to inform practice. To 'scrub up' and assist the operator during PCI and cardiac catheterisation. Understanding of haemodynamic monitoring. Understanding of cardiac rhythms and the significance of changes. Knowledge of the intravenous and intra coronary drugs administered both routinely and in emergency situations, and to prepare same. Dexterity to manipulate guide wires, catheters, balloon catheters, pressure wires, indeflators in synchrony with the operator. Knowledge of a variety of catheters, guide wires and balloon catheters and their use in different circumstances. Recognition & understanding of disease of the coronaries, identified via the angiographic evidence (Xray pictures) with the ability to follow the procedure and take appropriate action.
