This is a hands-on position where you'll be managing projects, mentoring junior engineers, and working closely with customers and internal teams. These skills are essential to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

Desirable Skills & Experience

Technical Skills:
* Writing well-structured and documented code in C, C++, and/or Python.
* Embedded firmware development for 8-bit and/or 32-bit targets (PIC, AVR, ARM, TMS320).
* Control systems development (H infinity, LQR etc.).
* Thermal, dynamic, and control system modelling using Matlab or Simulink.
* Using in-system debugging tools (JTAG, SWD etc.).
* Simulating and optimising analogue and power supply systems with SPICE.
* PCB layout using CAD design tools (e.g. KiCad).
* Understanding high-speed digital layout methods and emissions standards.
Relevant Experience:
* Leading hardware and/or firmware projects, keeping everything running smoothly without compromising performance.
* Developing firmware to documented quality standards (MISRA etc.)
* Working with high-voltage power electronics, ideally in rail applications (traction inverters, static frequency converters etc.).
* Designing hardware for tough environments, like extreme temperatures or moisture exposure.
* Diagnosing and repairing old or obsolete equipment.
* Creating mission-critical hardware for industries such as medical, defence, nuclear, or aerospace.
* Hands-on workshop/lab skills, like soldering, wiring harness assembly, crimping connectors, or machining enclosures.
