Job summary Applications are invited for Trauma and Orthopaedics Specialty Doctor based at Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust commencing February and April 2025, these are fixed term posts for a period of 12 months with the possibility of a further extension and with a chance of being part of CESR rotation. These posts provide an exciting opportunity to work within a friendly department at Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust - a busy trauma unit covering Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), Birmingham treatment centre (City Hospital) and Sandwell General Hospital, West Bromwich with an equally busy elective orthopaedics services covering multiple sub specialities. This non training job is at ST3/4 level and would suit doctors working towards joining a training programme. The department offers excellent educational/training opportunities in theatre and clinics as well as regular teaching sessions in the form of Journal clubs, Symposia, Workshops and Case Based discussions. Applicants must hold full GMC registration and have achieved CT2 level competencies within Trauma and Orthopaedics. Applicants should also possess the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, have good interpersonal skills, have caring attitude towards patients and evidence of good clinical practice. Closing Date: 29th January 2025 Interview Date: 6th February 2025 Main duties of the job The successful appointees will undertake elective and fracture outpatient clinics as well as theatre lists including trauma. Participation in the full shift on call rota, currently 1:16 with prospective cover (however this is subject to change). This is mainly covering Midland Metropolitan University Hospital including post-take ward round and presenting at the morning trauma meeting is expected. The appointee would be attached to a specific consultant or consultant team, covering both trauma and elective duties. They are required to attend both fracture and elective clinics on both sites ie. City Hospital and Sandwell General Hospital. A large majority of activities are consultant led. Inpatient work includes review of trauma and elective patients, attending both elective and trauma theatre, and attendance on consultant ward rounds as well as performing ward rounds independently when necessary. This post is non training and a supportive job, and the duties can be changed as per the requirements of the department, but sufficient experience is provided in trauma and elective orthopaedics. This post has a varied weekly timetable, which includes clinical commitments and operating lists. The post-holder will be responsible for the care of both elective Orthopaedic and Trauma inpatients as well as acute admissions via A&E and fracture clinics.
