The Princess of Wales Hospital Critical Care Unit (ITU/HDU) is looking for motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurses who are able to demonstrate evidence-based practice.

With a wide range of in-house training programmes as well as opportunities to further academic studies at local universities, the Critical Care Unit (ITU and HDU) will help you provide a high standard of research-based care. Included within this role, you will be expected to complete the Post Graduate Certificate in Critical Care. The Steps Framework for Adult Critical Care Nurses is used to support your learning and development.
The post holder will be a registered nurse with ideally experience in a critical care setting. All posts will involve shift working with internal rotation from days to nights over a 12-hour shift pattern with weekend and bank holiday working as required. The posts will be based at the Princess of Wales Hospital.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Responsibilities include:
1. Prepare and assist surgical equipment for complex invasive procedures such as insertion of Arterial, Central Venous Pressure lines, and Percutaneous Tracheostomy.
2. Participate in the administration of intravenous drugs after six months experience within critical care once completed and passed the Health Boards Intravenous study day or can provide evidence of Intravenous competence.
3. Responsible for taking blood samples from an arterial line and interpreting the results, informing the appropriate medical and nursing personnel.
4. Deal with difficult, confused, and disorientated patients.
5. Advise and assist junior medical staff.
