Job Description
Are you interested in being part of our Family Hub & Start for life team working across the communities directorate in the city to coordinate and support the delivery of the Volunteer Doula programme? You will be supporting the recruitment and training of volunteers to ensure the women referred to the programme are supported appropriately.
The Sheffield Doula Programme supports vulnerable and/or isolated women who would benefit from the extra support of a volunteer doula while becoming parents. You will be involved in:
1. The antenatal period from 34 weeks of the pregnancy onwards.
2. During the birth.
3. Up to 6 weeks postnatally.
4. Provide information and support for preparing for the birth and parenthood.
5. Attending pregnancy related appointments.
6. Support and information during birth and can be a birth partner if required.
7. Help with emotional support while adjusting to being a new parent.
8. Signpost to Universal and Specialist services.
You will be involved in conducting interviews to select volunteers, delivering training, and completing post-training professional discussions to assess knowledge and understanding of the role. You will ensure a consistently high standard of service to the women referred.
You will establish and maintain relationships with partnership organisations through collaborative working for the support of vulnerable women, providing up-to-date information to volunteer doulas and service users.
You will undertake service user and volunteer doula match visits and complete risk assessments and risk management plans. You will work within short timescales where required to risk assess properties and family circumstances for volunteers to support the woman at home or arrange suitable alternatives.
You will need to update the Liquid Logic database and other record-keeping procedures, always maintaining confidentiality and following SCC and doula policies, ensuring that volunteers are aware of and consistently follow the policies, protocols, and procedures.
You will maintain performance and develop practice and experience in line with personal targets agreed with the line manager through supervision. You will complete evaluation and collation of statistics using agreed evaluation tools to contribute to service impact analysis.
You will be willing to act as out-of-hours telephone contact at evenings, weekends, and bank holidays on a rota system to offer support to the doula volunteers as required.
