GatewayC is an online platform which delivers high quality education to support GPs and other primary care professionals in the early diagnosis of cancer. We are looking for an ambitious Education Coordinator to support the GatewayC programme, with a focus on education development. This is a fixed term post for 12 months to cover maternity leave.
The post holder will be responsible for creating effective and pedagogically robust resources to support primary care professionals in their continued professional development. You'll be working as part of a friendly, ambitious, and dedicated team.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide pedagogic support regarding the design and construction of courses.
2. Work with subject matter experts and internal and external developers to deliver education briefs for the development of courses.
3. Provide support to subject matter experts in the research of appropriate content and resources to embed within courses.
4. Support the Education Manager in liaising with national charities to ensure content aligns with national strategies and in the review of educational content.
5. Forge and maintain complex communications with a variety of stakeholders and negotiating outcomes.
6. Collaborate closely with the design team to create content that allows learners to test and apply their understanding, provide appropriate feedback and encourage critical thinking skills and self-directed learning.
7. Translate national, regional and local requirements and design learning experiences that utilise a range of e-learning approaches.
8. Work with colleagues to determine the most effective online course design ensuring high quality and pedagogically sound approaches to course design are followed.
9. Work with Patient User Representatives either face-to-face or electronically in an empathetic, sensitive manner at various stages of course development.
10. Develop and deliver face-to-face facilitated learning events with primary care practitioners, taking advantage of latest pedagogical approaches, and lead on the development of supporting learning materials.
11. Liaise with the GatewayC marketing team regarding key joint tasks in course development and promotion and implement change to development plans and policy to dovetail accordingly.
12. Lead the change process in the review and refresh of existent courses; including checking clinical accuracy with internal SMEs and external charitable stakeholders, evaluate user experience and functionality of the platform and lead changes with the design team and implement latest educational pedagogy.
13. Manage own workload and report on course development to Education Manager at timely intervals and at a monthly development meeting, highlighting potential risks and issues and adapting plans accordingly.
14. Support the Education Manager in assisting with the filming of actor-led consultations and when interviewing specialists.
15. Spot inefficiencies, then develop and instigate change to ensure course development workflows are as streamlined as possible.
16. Lead the review process of existing courses with the Education Coordinator and the wider GatewayC team.
17. Work with the Education Manager to extract both quantitative and qualitative data and analyse the impact of the education.
18. Contribute to the evaluation of existing courses to ensure that they are current, accurate and employ latest interactive and engaging learner techniques.
Educational Development
1. Work closely with other team members to ensure courses are designed according to the agreed specifications and quality standards.
2. Produce comprehensive education briefs to enable the developers to build courses to various stages of completion.
3. Keep abreast of developments and research in learning design and educational technologies generally and cascade on knowledge to other team members.
4. Provide hands-on support to colleagues who are experimenting with innovative teaching, learning and assessment methods.
Quality and Governance
1. Maintain high quality assurance standards in online course materials and course delivery, ensuring copyright, licensing and accessibility standards are maintained.
2. Report progress on behalf of the development work stream to the Education Manager and the wider development team using established reporting methods.
3. Assist with the accreditation process for all materials developed.
Management and Leadership
1. Line management of GatewayC Education Coordinator, providing support and opportunities for development where appropriate.
2. Represent GatewayC and the School of Oncology in a professional and positive manner.
3. Contribute to the development of the GatewayC team, developing and sharing knowledge, experience, skills and best practice.
4. Follow prescribed GatewayC policies and procedures in all relevant aspects of management.
5. Work in partnership with other members of the School of Oncology, GM Cancer, CRUK, HEE and HEIW to support the overall vision and objectives of the programme.
6. Ensure that projects are delivered within the available resources and agreed timescales, providing regular reports and raising significant problems/issues in a timely manner.
7. Plan the effective use of finances with Programme Manager and/or Education Manager to support all projects efficiently.

1. Manage and prioritise own portfolio of work and project-based responsibilities to meet required deadlines and objectives.
2. Take every reasonable opportunity to maintain and improve self-development including professional knowledge and competence.
3. Participate in personal objective setting and review, including the creation of a personal development plan.
4. Further personal development and training will be supported where it is consistent with the jointly agreed outcomes and objectives of personal development plans and/or the changing strategic and operational requirements of the project.
The successful candidate will be a methodical individual with the skills to ensure that duties and tasks are followed through. Alongside this, we require initiative and willingness to work in a team in a rapidly developing work environment.
This is an important role in a professional, creative, and forward-thinking team. You will therefore need to have outstanding administrative and technical skills and educational knowledge. You will also need to have exceptional communication skills as you work as part of our education team to support developing and maintaining our resources.
We are looking for a motivated individual with a 'can-do' approach and an ability to deliver to tight deadlines. We will need you to be flexible in your approach and have outstanding attention to detail.
The post requires a combination of good technical skills, experience in creating educational resources and an understanding of pedagogy and the importance of good quality education.
