The Strategic Renewables Unit (SRU) and the Marine Planning Team (MPT) sits within the MMO's Marine Development (Domestic and International) Directorate, alongside the Marine Licensing Team, and the Global Team.
The SRU Policy Lead will be based within the Strategic Renewables Unit but will work across and support relevant colleagues in the Marine Licensing Team. The role will support the SRU's vision and objectives to support deployment of sustainable offshore renewables. The successful candidate will be involved with key topics to support delivery of the British Energy Security Strategy and will focus on underwater noise.
The MPT's core service is to prepare, implement, monitor, evaluate and report on England's marine plans based on sound evidence and data, and effective engagement including working across government to influence the development of the approach taken to marine planning. The Marine Planner role will be based within the MPT and will be involved in a range of functions including stakeholder engagement, evidence and analysis and implementation and monitoring.
It is anticipated that a merit list will be created, lasting up to 12 months, that will assist in filling other roles within SRU and MPT that may become available in the future. We are keen to hear from candidates with a broad range of skills and experience including a background in planning, local or national government, evidence and analysis, team leadership and project management.
You will work closely with colleagues within and outside of the MMO including engagement with a wide range of stakeholders to include Government Departments, environmental NGO's and industry.
The SRU Policy Lead will undertake wider supporting tasks in the MMO's work in offshore renewables. You will lead support for the SRU and MMO's activities on underwater noise in relation to offshore wind. The role will support improvements to licensing including around noise and other potential barriers to deployment of offshore wind.
The Marine Planner will contribute to the development and delivery of marine plans in England. The role will undertake wider supporting tasks in the preparation of marine plans in England including their supporting documents and functions including stakeholder engagement, evidence and analysis and implementation and monitoring. Reporting to a Senior Marine Planner, the role holder will be involved in at least one theme including the economy, environment, or social groups. They will provide appropriate leadership and management to marine planners within workstreams that contribute to the marine planning programme.
