Client Details: My client is searching to provide large scale investment to create a new offering in the Midlands, primarily in the Leicestershire area. The business is a market-leader in the freight forwarding and shipping industry and has offices based across the world. The business is well known for their provision of freight forwarding services across European full-load, part-load, and groupage networks and is looking to expand their air & sea freight offering. You will be joining a fast-paced environment assisting in finding logistics solutions for some of the world's largest industrial, manufacturing retail & FMCG based customers. My client focuses on providing full end-to-end freight forwarding options for an expanding client base.
Job Description: As a Freight Commercial Manager, you will report into the Country Director on a daily basis. You will have full responsibility for the expanding operation in Leicestershire along with the following areas:
* Manage a fast-paced, growing, mixed commercial and operational freight business encompassing a business development team and operational import and export specialists responsible for bookings including pricing, quotations, end-to-end shipping, and customs documentation. You will also oversee the key accounts team and support in person with commercially driven high-value accounts.
* Managing a business development team of 8-10 account managers & business development executives, helping them grow GP, revenue, and margin streams with new and existing clients.
* Full branch/office P&L responsibility including HR development and staff training, alongside RTW, 1-2-1's, and appraisals of a direct and indirect team of colleagues.
* Full P&L responsibilities for a branch currently producing circa £30m in revenue streams.
* Ability to assist in onboarding and growing new business and revenue streams across road, air, and sea freight forwarding business.
* Helping create and update a rate matrix (along with the commercial team) for nominating carriers, hauliers, shipping lines, airlines, and GSA in-line with rates, OTIF value, and customer requirements in line with a variety of INCOTerms.
* Developing a 'best in service' relationship offering to ensure high levels of customer service are provided by the branch to a mixed client base.
* Top-level customer rate analysis on route guidance, whilst monitoring and securing allocations and operational efficiency.
The Ideal Candidate: The successful candidate will have an expansive background in freight forwarding across both import and export. The ideal Freight Commercial Manager will have the following skills and experience:
* 5+ years’ experience in commercial or sales freight forwarding in either air, sea, or road freight forwarding.
* Experience of managing highly successful teams of business development executives and operational teams across freight forwarding, customs, and commercial development experience.
* History of leading and managing freight operations involving pricing, quotation, and planning customer deliveries across road, air & sea freight.
* Excellent customer service experience.
* Proven history of developing freight forwarding commercial accounts.
* Commutable to Leicestershire on a hybrid or daily basis.
