The opportunity
As our Finance Assistant, you’ll play an essential part in supporting the financial and administrative functions that help to keep the College running smoothly. You’ll join a supportive and dedicated team of 16, where collaboration and excellent service are at the heart of what we do. Your role will be varied and engaging, covering tasks such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control, reconciliations, and preparing financial information. By contributing to the efficiency of the finance team, you’ll help the College maintain strong financial management while delivering excellent service to both internal and external stakeholders.
You’ll primarily focus on the purchase ledger function, ensuring invoices are processed accurately and on time. This includes working with invoice scanning software, matching invoices to purchase orders or goods receipt notes, and managing approval workflows across the College. You’ll also look after supplier accounts, address invoice and payment queries, and reconcile supplier statements, resolving any discrepancies along the way.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will also include keeping financial records accurate and up to date, producing purchase orders and invoices, and responding to queries related to customer and supplier ledgers. Using the accounting system, you’ll verify, and update details as needed, assist with reconciliations, and provide a fees desk service, including cash handling. General administration duties and other tasks to support the department will also form part of your varied workload.
Your attention to detail, organisational skills, and commitment to great customer service will not only keep the department running smoothly but also make a real difference to the College’s success.
This is a great opportunity to join a great team and develop your skills in a rewarding and dynamic environment.
About you
We’re looking for an organised, detail-focused individual with a passion for finance and a proactive, can-do attitude. You’ll enjoy working efficiently and accurately, even when managing multiple tasks in a busy environment. With strong problem-solving skills, you’ll feel confident tackling challenges like resolving invoice or payment discrepancies.
Your communication skills will be essential, as you’ll regularly collaborate with suppliers, customers, and colleagues across the College. Building strong relationships and delivering excellent customer service will come naturally to you. You’ll also need to be comfortable using accounting software and proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, as maintaining accurate records and reconciling data will be a key part of your role.
If you’ve got previous experience in finance or administration—especially in areas like accounts payable, accounts receivable, or credit control—that’s a real plus. Familiarity with purchase orders, supplier accounts, or reconciliations would be an advantage, but what matters most is your enthusiasm to learn and grow as part of a supportive and collaborative team.
