This post offers an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, highly enthusiastic and motivated Music Therapist who can place Service Users needs at the centre of their clinical work and who is interested in delivering a high standard of clinical Music Therapy sessions both with groups and individually across acute inpatient Children’s, Adults and Older People’s Wards in the Fulbourn locality at CPFT.
This post will be supported by grant funding via CPFT's Head to Toe Charity. The post holder will deliver group and individual Music Therapy sessions, sometimes using voice as their primary instrument along with piano.
The Music Therapist will be managed and clinically supervised by the supportive CPFT Arts Therapies team who all have a wealth of knowledge to share. The Arts Therapists innovatively promote recovery and resilience and take referrals for Service Users where a clear clinical need for nonverbal therapy is identified.
The Music Therapist will work across the wards and in the Arts Therapies, Service fully equipped purpose-built Music Room within the Resource Centre Fulbourn Hospital where the service is based. The Arts Therapies Service works closely with Multi-Disciplinary Teams on every ward where they deliver sessions.
This is an exciting opportunity to provide excellent Music Therapy work supporting Service Users of all ages, and to liaise effectively with a range of professionals and staff across Acute Mental Health Services.
Main duties of the job
* To manage a specialist case load, providing assessment, diagnoses, treatment and monitoring of individuals identified needs across the Arts Therapies Service.
* To participate in multi-disciplinary/ multi-agency working within the Arts Therapies and with key partners.
* To participate in audit, service evaluation and research activities when required.
* To participate in the delivery of Music Therapy under the guidance of specialist band 7 Arts Therapist and the Lead Arts Therapist by managing a caseload of clients.

* To maintain professional standards in accordance with the relevant professional body BAMT and the professional regulator (Health and Care Professions Council).

* To be proficient in the assessment, identification, treatment and management of the emotional and psychological needs of the population requiring prolonged, in-depth concentration. This includes risk assessment, assessment of complex conditions.
* To frequently communicate and receive highly complex sensitive information with people; who have experienced trauma/abuse /highly complex needs; their relatives/carers and other professionals.
* To have the specialist knowledge / skill to apply psychodynamic formulations and theory to work with individuals, groups and organizations.

* Ability to assess patients’ suitability for arts therapies interventions and to make decisions and recommendations based on strong theoretical knowledge and an understanding of the evidence base.
* Ability to understand complex non-verbal communication.
* Ability to support and engage in shared decision making with patients, including with patients who experience communication challenges.
* Ability to contribute to safety planning using professional theoretical knowledge and skills in risk assessment, which includes maintaining a safe therapy environment and supports a patient understanding and involvement in their own care.
* Ability to plan and prioritise own workload autonomously, which may include a range of longer- and short-term work.
* Ability to provide detailed and complex psychological reports and information to inform and support care planning processes.
* Ability to provide services in a variety of environments to meet the needs of the patient.
* Abilities in providing arts therapies across all ages.
Education/Qualifications
* Professional Qualification in Music Therapy at Master’s level or equivalent.
* Degree or equivalent in Music.
Experience
* Experience of working collaboratively in Mental Health teams.
* Experience of managing own caseload and prioritising effectively.
* Experience of Music Therapy individual assessment and intervention relevant to Mental Health.
* Experience of using clinical supervision effectively.
* A strong understanding of Arts Therapies theory in relation to clinical area and modality, informed by research and practice based evidence.
* Understanding of a range of contemporary professional approaches, including the role of education and self-management in recovery, and the ability to integrate this into professional perspective.
* Knowledge and understanding of research methodology and outcome measurement.
